In recent years, because I often give lectures and serve as a consultant in companies, public sectors, and universities, I not only have the opportunity to meet outstanding young friends from all walks of life, but I also find that everyone generally has a need for workplace writing or writing product copywriting and business plans.
But come to think of it, I find that everyone is generally troubled by creative thinking and writing, and some friends return their composition skills to their teachers too early! As a result, when many people hear that they need to think creatively or write creatively, they feel that the pen is heavy!
Students often ask me how to write a compelling article, and I also share effective methods of collecting inspiration with you in many classes.
In order to stimulate better creativity, I know that many of my friends may like to collect a lot of information like me, thinking that it can be used in the workplace in the future. However, collecting too much information can easily cause trouble. Because it requires more effort to filter and select, not only is it difficult to use the data itself, but it also cannot be digested if it is accumulated too much, and it may even cause psychological burden.
So, how can we apply what we see, hear, think and inspire in life to creative thinking in the workplace?
Recently, I saw the book “Daily Practice of Creative Thinking” published by Economic News Agency, and I was very surprised. The author of this book, Kazunari Uchida, is currently a professor at Waseda University Business School in Japan. He previously served as senior vice president and director of Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He can be said to be a scholar and expert with rich knowledge.
Professor Uchida pointed out that it is good for us to receive a lot of information and intelligence every day, but we need to do a better job of screening. Therefore, he suggested that we categorize the intelligence we see and hear.
The author gave an interesting analogy in the book. He said that you can put this classified information into a virtual “drawer” in your mind. When the time comes, this useful information will naturally surface at the right time and can be put to immediate use. Oh, you may want to ask: What to do with the information that you can’t remember no matter how hard you think about it? The author said, that means it is not very important!
The author mentioned that when office workers are working, whether they are writing a business plan or making a business plan, they generally believe that logical thinking is required. In other words, everyone may think that left-brain thinking is the most important, and there is no need to use the right brain at all. However, the author believes that it is important to use the left brain to process huge amounts of data, briefings, or spreadsheets, but if you only rely on these logical thinking, you will not be able to make major discoveries, nor will you be able to generate touching ideas.
Therefore, in order to differentiate yourself in the workplace, you need to use your right brain. Otherwise, denying the right brain is equivalent to denying the instinct of being a human being, and will also lose individuality; and it is probably impossible to write differentiated answers.
Why should we pay attention to the right brain? Because all flashes of inspiration occur in the right brain, the author of this book attaches great importance to how to easily use the right brain to collect and organize information, and to wait patiently for the information to ferment and mature.
As for the collection and bursting of inspiration, the author also has a unique discussion, which is worth our reference:
Please take a look at the picture below. The lines connecting various elements on it mean that various examples may occur. The most important ones are the four major elements, which is to center the awareness of the problem. Others include imaginary archives (drawers), phenomena (intelligence), and inspirations (sudden thoughts), which continue to repeat:

Basically, problem consciousness screens certain phenomena (information) and stores them in an archive database. These phenomena (information) use problem awareness as a catalyst to react chemically with the information in the archive database, thereby triggering a chain reaction of a series of inspirations.
However, there is another situation where there is no awareness of the problem originally, but a certain phenomenon (information) happens to occur, which triggers the awareness of the problem that originally existed in the mind. On the contrary, there are also cases where people are very actively aware of the problem, and as soon as they see the phenomenon (information), they will have a sudden flash of inspiration or inspiration.
Or it has nothing to do with certain phenomena (intelligence) in the outside world. The awareness of the problem is like relying on the labels of the drawer in the brain, directly searching for answers or clues in the folder of the drawer in the brain. Occasionally, there is no awareness of any problem, and inspiration is obtained directly from phenomena (information).
“This is very interesting, just use this.” The author of this book mentioned that no matter what, as long as you can maintain awareness of the problem and through various combinations, it is likely to arouse a lot of inspiration. The author calls these “observations,” “feelings,” or “intuitions.”
In fact, if you regard seeing the “phenomenon” as “observation”, it will be easier to be attracted. The existence or absence of problem consciousness is called “feeling”. Sometimes you will immediately think of something because you feel something; even if you don’t think of anything, it doesn’t matter. As long as you put these into the file data first, when you see other phenomena in the future, you will generate “inspiration” through that phenomenon, and this “inspiration” or “the process of generating inspiration” is called “intuition”.
The “phenomenon” in the picture above refers to “observation”; and “inspiration” refers to “intuition”; as for “feeling”, it refers to the upward and downward arrows between “phenomenon” and “problem awareness”.
To summarize, the basic sequence for getting inspired is as follows.
① Seeing the phenomenon (observation): Seeing the phenomenon (information) generates awareness (feelings) of the problem that generates interest (or questions); there is a downward arrow in the middle of the picture above).
②Being attracted (feeling) because of problem awareness: When seeing other phenomena with problem awareness, you are immediately attracted and pay attention (feeling; upward arrow in the middle of the picture above).
③Inspiration (intuition): When you put things that attract your attention into the archives in your mind, you will search the archives and get inspiration (intuition).
Therefore, in work as well as in daily life, “① seeing phenomena” is regarded as an important thing. However, please do not regard this as something you are forced to do, but as a way to expand your horizons and broaden your knowledge in the areas of interest. Then let the results of “② being attracted because of problem awareness” and “① seeing the phenomenon”, and “③ inspiration” be constructed in the imaginary archive database in the mind. And often think about it, and use it as an auxiliary method within the scope that does not feel forced. Also, don’t forget to use your favorite method, using the virtual file database in your mind as the “main” and the physical file data (computer archives, paper copies, etc.) as the “auxiliary”.
In this way, when we need inspiration temporarily in the future, at least we don’t have to panic, but we have a method to follow. What’s even better is that the creative ideas or ideas generated through brainstorming will be unique (even if the results are not great, at least you have tried your best and used your own imagination).
