Today I am very happy to have the opportunity to participate in the “[Asia-Pacific E-commerce Century Summit] (https://www.smartm.com.tw/Activity/3833cea3)” co-organized by Century Think Tank Management Consulting Co., Ltd. and the Smartm Club. In this e-commerce event with more than 1,000 people, I met many familiar old friends and made some new friends. It can be said that I came back with a full load!

Regarding the content of this century summit, many friends have already shared photos or commented on Facebook, so I will not go into details. On the contrary, I am more interested in seeing this rare event in the e-commerce circle from the perspective of event planning and execution. What aspects are worth appreciating and learning from? What parts can be done better in the future?

The difficulty and dedication of event planning

In fact, friends who have actually held physical events must know that holding an event is not easy. It is not just about finding good speakers and venues! There are so many details that need to be taken care of in every aspect, not to mention that it is really not easy to host a large-scale seminar with a scale of 1,000 people. It is really not easy to invite domestic and foreign guests, guide the movement, and plan the theme, etc.

Therefore, I would like to first pay tribute to Xu Jingtai, Li Xinyue and other friends of Century Think Tank. Thank you for your hard work and thank you for organizing such a meaningful event.

Highlights of activities worth learning from

Looking at today’s event, the organizers’ intentions can be seen everywhere. If I have to say, the most amazing thing for me is the video during the event and the highlight video after the event, which is endlessly memorable. Especially the introductory video for the afternoon session allowed guests to quickly understand Philippines, [Indonesia](https://www.facebook.com /smartm.tw/posts/807811355933410) and other countries’ Internet and e-commerce development status. I think this is a great design. I even hope that the organizer can share these short videos on the YouTube platform or Facebook fan page in the future so that interested friends can browse again.

In addition, the host Joseph who was in charge of the show today was praised by many guests for his steady style and clear speech. His performance was remarkable. It is not difficult to find from here that a competent host can add points to the event.

Also, I found that this conference used the [BAND] (http://www.band.us/home) App, which belongs to the same group as LINE, as a social platform for Q&A by lecturers and real-time interaction with guests, and the effect seems to be good! In the past, when holding physical events, most units only used Facebook fan pages for promotion or live broadcasts. However, this time Century Think Tank has specially opened a group for the “Asia-Pacific E-commerce Century Summit” in BAND, and an invitation code is required to enter and participate in the interaction. This can also appropriately protect the rights of participants (and also achieve the purpose of blocking out other people). In this closed community, everyone can speak freely or introduce themselves, which seems to be a good feeling.

The organizer also used [BAND] (http://www.band.us/about) to broadcast the live broadcast of the conference and excerpt the key points of each session. Guests at the conference could communicate with each other through this group. Looking at the whole day event, everyone’s interaction was quite lively. What I am more curious about is whether the organizer will continue to operate this online community in the future?

In any case, the Asia-Pacific E-commerce Century Summit’s use of BAND for instant announcements and interactive communication seems to be a good attempt and worthy of reference by other event organizers of different natures in the future.

Directions that can be improved in the future

The above mentioned some of the advantages I found, and then I will also talk about some things that can be done better in the future. It seems that QR Code is always seen in many activities of similar nature. What’s interesting is that although QR Code is convenient, it doesn’t seem to be as popular in Taiwan as everyone thinks? I saw at the scene that some people still couldn’t scan the QR Code, or they didn’t have an app to scan the QR Code on their mobile phones. Maybe this part is a difference between the local area and mainland China and Japan?

It cannot be denied that QR Code is actually very convenient, but are there any other alternatives or parallel solutions? I’m afraid I need to think about this carefully. The organizer also designed a questionnaire and encouraged everyone to fill in the questionnaire by giving away coffee. As expected, many guests seriously provided feedback. With the advent of the mobile era, more and more people are using smartphones to access the Internet. I found that online questionnaires made with Google Docs are not very convenient to read and fill in on smartphones. Especially when there are multiple-choice questions, you have to scroll below to answer them, which is really frustrating. In addition, there are a lot of questions in this questionnaire, which is indeed a test of everyone’s patience!

In addition, when I finally filled out the questionnaire and was about to submit it, I found that I couldn’t send it out. I couldn’t help but feel anxious. I wonder if the network quality at the event was too poor, or if something went wrong? Because I was answering on my mobile phone, I had to scroll a long way before I realized I had missed a question, which also cost me several minutes.

On the one hand, I look forward to the further evolution of Google Docs. On the other hand, I also think that it might be better if everyone can consider using a questionnaire platform such as Typeform that takes special care of netizens who browse mobile web pages in the future!

Today I was lucky enough to participate in the Asia-Pacific E-commerce Century Summit. Not only did I learn more about the implementation details of cross-border e-commerce, but I also gained a better understanding of the Southeast Asian market. It can be said that I gained a lot. As we all know, the investment in manpower and material resources to organize an event is often considerable. The purpose of writing this article is not to review the gains and losses, but to express gratitude and feedback to the organizer; of course, there is also self-contemplation.
