Last night, I continued to help several students take the “Subscript Technique for Eye-catching Copywriting” course at the TeSA headquarters in Huashan 1914 Cultural and Creative Industry Park. In addition to introducing you to copywriting skills, the concept of content marketing and how to design a sales page, we also spent some time discussing with you how to bid?

I suggest that students think about two questions before subscribing: What do you think is the main axis of this article? Also, what issue or image do you hope readers will think of when they see this title? Well, this is actually what is called “empathy”.

For example, take the recently concluded China Airlines pilot strike as an example. If you want to write a review article, you can consider starting from different aspects such as passenger rights, workers’ physical and mental safety, or corporate competitiveness. You can even start with the financial losses announced by China Airlines…

For example, one of our classmates gave this news this title:

China Airlines strikes again: 31 million losses in 5 days, where is the sincerity in resolving the issue?

It is obvious that this classmate cleverly used numbers to create a sense of picture, making people feel that the strike has caused heavy losses in just five days, and that people must face this issue squarely.

Let’s take the Chinese NBA star “Linsanity” Jeremy Lin’s move to the Raptors as an example. Not only can we look at the team’s record, Jeremy Lin’s playing space, team culture and even the probability of entering the playoffs, etc., we can also put some of Jeremy Lin’s playing characteristics or numbers into it to create a touching title.

For example, one of our classmates gave this news a title like this:

The “big” hand appears: Jeremy Lin moves to the Raptors, and Linsanity is expected to happen again in the playoffs

Well, don’t you also find this way of using homophonic subscripts interesting?

Generally speaking, in addition to placing some keywords when subscribing, you can also create a visual sense, or cleverly use celebrities, numbers and other elements to make the title unforgettable at first sight.

In the past, I shared with you the subscripting method of Mi Meng’s team, a writer from the other side of the Taiwan Strait, in my copywriting class:

Mi Meng How can each article create a click rate of “100,000+”? What did her team do?

*Write 50 titles first.

  • Put 50 titles into a special group of 5,000 people for voting, and the community will decide the best title.

  • Officially post to the public with the selected title.

  • Based on netizens’ responses to this article, employees wrote another 10,000-word tracking report.

I believe you can get some inspiration from Mimeng’s story. If we can’t give fifty titles for every article, can we at least give three titles? Then, from these three titles, select the one that best grabs the reader’s attention.

Famous NBA star Ke Rui (Stephen Curry once said: “I spent a lot of time practicing during the off-season, and I was full of confidence. My teammates also created many opportunities for me and helped me cover. Everything combined to help me have an excellent new season.”

Just like Corey’s fiery touch comes from a lot of practice, I also believe that the more you observe other people’s works and practice writing yourself, the more familiar you will become with subscripting. Do you also want to write an eye-catching title? Let’s practice together!
