Why is now the best time to learn Claude Code?

Why is now the best time to learn Claude Code?

Looking back in three months, you will be glad you didn’t wait any longer.

After giving a lecture at Sun Yat-sen University a few days ago, a Chinese student came to me and asked, “Teacher, is it too late for me to start learning Vibe Coding now?”

I laughed. I’ve heard this question too many times in the past three months.

The answer is: **You asked the wrong question. It’s not about whether it’s too late, but why do we have to wait? **

The window is closing, but is still open

2026 is a watershed year for AI programming tools.

Gartner predicts that the proportion of enterprise applications integrating AI Agents will surge from less than 5% in 2025 to 40% by the end of the year. Eightfold growth. Being able to use these tools not only does not add too many points, it is even becoming a basic threshold for job hunting.

But it’s still early adopter stage.

I started using Claude Code intensively at the end of last year. At that time, there were not many Chinese teaching resources, so I had to figure out many things by myself. But it is precisely because of those few months that I am now able to stand here and share my experience instead of still catching up with others.

I also learn by doing. Even if I stumble or make mistakes, they are great nutrients for growth. Learn now, and you can slowly explore, make mistakes, and build your own workflow. After everyone uses it, there will be nothing strange about it.

Vibe Coding: Wen Zuren’s counterattack moment

I talked about Vibe Coding in previous post – it’s not a marketing term, it’s a fundamental paradigm shift.

In the past, writing programs required learning program syntax, understanding data structure, being able to debug, and preferably having a mathematical background.

Now to use Claude Code, you need:

  • Accurate expression: Make it clear what you want
  • Critical Thinking: Determine whether the output meets the needs
  • Iterative Communication: Adjust instructions based on results

These three are the abilities that Wenzhu Education is best at cultivating.

In a class at the Chinese Department of Sun Yat-sen University a few days ago, I witnessed a group of students who had never written a procedural program each create their own web page works within three hours. Some people have made poetry appreciation pages, some have made personal portfolios, and some have even made an interactive literary map. They didn’t write a single line of code - they just talked.

Three unique advantages now

1. The tools have just matured, and the ecology has not yet become rigid.

Claude Code has reached a sweet spot in early 2026: the functionality is strong, but the threshold has not yet been raised by the processes of large enterprises.

At $20 per month, the Pro Plan provides productivity close to that of engineers at tech companies. This price window may not exist forever.

2. Learning resources are exploding

The tools have just matured, and teachings, cases, and best practices are rapidly accumulating. You don’t need to be a guinea pig—the pitfalls that others have stepped on have been sorted out.

Another half year? The amount of information can be overwhelming and difficult to digest. The density is just right now.

3. The first mover bonus is still there

There are still only a few people who can use it. This means that what you do is easy to impress, you have time to build a portfolio, and you can become a pioneer in the circle.

I know a friend who used to work as a copywriter in an advertising company. He just started learning Claude Code at the beginning of this year. Now, she is an AI expert in the company and is responsible for leading the entire creative department to introduce AI workflow. Her salary increased, but more importantly, she went from someone anxious about being replaced by AI to a pioneer leading her team to embrace AI.

What should I do if I’m not an engineer?

That’s exactly the point.

Claude Code is not an engineering tool for engineers - it is a tool for people with ideas to turn their ideas into reality.

Marketers can create landing pages. Content creators can build newsletter systems. Entrepreneurs can quickly validate an MVP. Academic workers can build automated research processes.

**The most dangerous competitors in the AI era are those who are both professional in the field and can use AI tools. ** The Claude Code is the shortcut to becoming that kind of person.

The cost of not learning

Some people say “wait until the technology becomes more mature before you learn.”

The problem is: the technology will be more mature, but your competitors are also gaining experience. If you think you are waiting for a better opportunity, you are actually widening the gap.

A more realistic problem: When AI programming becomes a basic ability, people who are professional in the field but do not know how to use tools will be outperformed by people who can use tools to amplify their expertise.

How to start?

Week 1: Subscribe to Claude Pro ($20/month), install Claude Code, about 5-10 minutes. For detailed installation instructions, please refer to my Self-study Guide for Self-Study by Wen Zuren.

First month: 30 minutes a day, follow the instructions to do a small project. Do it first and talk later.

Third Month: You will start to have the intuition of “use Claude Code to do this”. Internalization starts here.

Conclusion

The Chinese student asked: “Isn’t it too late to learn it now?”

Won’t. But ask again six months later and the answer may be different.

The uniqueness of this point in time: the maturity of tools, the availability of learning resources, and the profit margin for first movers—all three exist at the same time. This window won’t stay open forever.

Instead of continuing to ask “should I learn it?”, it is better to open the terminal and enter the first command.
