The weather is so nice today! After lunch, I passed by a small park near the Zhongshan Junior High School MRT Station. There was still a little time before the afternoon meeting, so I took out a book from my backpack and started reading while blowing the wind…

Friends who know me know that I am a hopeless bookworm. As long as you have a book nearby or within arm’s reach, you can pass countless hours. Because of this, some friends often ask me about reading skills or ask me to recommend reading lists.

Well, in addition to being a book lover, I have also published several books over the years, including novels, computer books, business management books and biographies. So, let me talk to you about reading today.

Speaking of reading, there are several scenes that are very unforgettable.

The first scene dates back to my junior college days. At that time, I was staying at my grandma’s house, living alone on the fifth floor. My uncle’s study room on the third floor was a mysterious and attractive treasure trove… His door was always locked and would only be opened when the owner was on holiday. Only then did I have the opportunity to peek inside and appreciate my uncle’s rich and diverse collection of books. It’s hard to imagine that an elder with a background in science and engineering who works in a machinery company would like to read movies, literature, dance, photography and tea ceremony…

The second scene goes back to when I was a child. When I was in elementary school, I visited my uncle Sato’s home in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. I was living in their house at that time, and the things I saw when I opened my eyes were very new every day. The best thing was that I actually saw many comic books hidden by my sister in the toilet. I was suspicious at that time, but my sister Miyuki looked serious. I guessed that this might be a kind of “toilet literature”.

The third scene is a library that everyone should be familiar with. The paradox is that although I like reading, I seldom go to the library. Only when I was in junior high school, I would often hang out in the library of Minsheng Community and read with my senior sisters. Thinking about it afterwards, maybe I don’t like the feeling of being crowded with people, or maybe the atmosphere of the library turning into a K-book center makes me feel a little out of place, right? But the interesting thing is that I really like several libraries in National Taiwan University. Whether it is the General Library or the Academy of Social Sciences Library, they make people feel at ease.

Closer to home, everyone knows that “opening a book is beneficial”, but when you get a book, how do you usually start reading it? Will you read from the first page to the last page without hesitation, or will you consider the preface and table of contents of the entire book first? Of course, I also know that some people will like to read the recommended preface or preface first, trying to find the key to entering the world of this book.

Although I have taught reading classes to others and taught them some reading skills, they have also received a good response. But I must also say that reading is indeed a very personal matter, and there is no standard answer in itself. But if you ask me what I think, I always think that reading is a very happy thing. You can gain knowledge and nutrients from between the lines, and seek subtle interactions with the author.

For many authors, the purpose of writing a book is not just to earn royalties. They often look forward to finding a way to talk to the world. At least for me, I do hold this original intention. For example, take my own humble book “[Content-based Marketing] (http://bit.ly/vista-content-marketing-book)”, which was published in November last year, as an example. When I see someone taking the time to read the book they wrote, they have marked the whole book, highlighted key points, and even written detailed reading notes…

Well, seeing these actions will certainly make people feel happy, but if this book can make readers more aware of [content marketing](https://www.contenthacker.today/search?q=%E5%85%A 7%E5%AE%B9%E8%A1%8C%E9%8A%B7), or it can be a good companion for everyone and spend some time with them (even if it is just to kill boring meeting time, or read a few pages while waiting for someone…), that would be great!

──Of course, if my book can really bring you some new horizons or gains, that will be the happiest thing for me as an author!

In this age where everything is quick and easy, I understand that everyone attaches great importance to the time and cost-effectiveness invested in reading. But what I want to say is that instead of caring about the author’s reputation, the price and practicality of the book, perhaps what is more important is whether you have ever been struck by one or two sentences in the book while reading? Or have you ever objected to some of the ideas the author mentioned?

Having said that, the emotions or thoughts generated during the reading process actually help me understand the content of the book better and get closer to the author’s world.

Oh, right! I also appreciate Liang Wendao’s [statement](https://www.master-insight.com/%E6%A2%81%E6%96%87%E9%81%93%EF%BC%9A%E9%96%8B%E5%8D%B7%E6%9C%AA%E5%BF%85%E6%9C %89%E7%9B%8A%EF%BC%8C%E6%AF%94%E5%A6%82%E5%8B%B5%E5%BF%97%E7% 9A%84%E6%9B%B8%E8%AE%80%E5%A4%9A%E4%BA%86%E5%B0%B1%E6%9C%83/):

Please open yourself up, let reading and reading change yourself, and make yourself a different kind of person. We still have this possibility anytime and anywhere: although we may not become better people, change itself is the goal of life.

The new year has arrived, let us be the best version of ourselves. Changing the world may not be easy, but changing yourself is not as difficult as you imagine - and one of the simplest and most effective ways is to start by reading!
