The weather was not good yesterday evening, with a few drops of rain floating in the sky from time to time. Sitting in a convenience store, sipping coffee and looking at the hurried people outside the window, it feels like you are outside the action and has a different feeling.

This is a scenery that can often be seen in the city, but you have a different understanding every time you look at it. In this busy and utilitarian society, everyone wants to become a super individual, but they don’t know that the result of blind obedience may lead to losing their true self.

Suddenly I recalled the debate I just played in school on Wednesday night. Every time I debated with the students from the Institute of Economics, I felt very happy, because they could always cite a bunch of economic theories to support their arguments. On the other hand, our representatives were probably business owners or senior executives. We may not be able to compare with the theory, but because we have a little more workplace experience, we always counterattack from personal management experience.

This whole Oregon-made debate is really interesting! In fact, winning or losing is not the point, but the process is worth recalling. No wonder Professor Mao Qingsheng of the Department of Economics of National Taiwan University bluntly said that this was one of the most exciting debates he had seen in four years.

The so-called “debate” refers to an argument on a certain issue or proposition, using spoken language as the main method, to distinguish the correctness or pros and cons of different positions. Wikipedia tells us: Debate occurs in our daily lives and does not necessarily require superb eloquence or strong logical thinking skills, but superb eloquence and strong logical thinking skills can greatly improve the ability to debate.

The interesting thing is that we may not completely believe in a certain point of view, but we have to defend certain positions because of the need for debate. Just like this time we are debating “Should Taiwan open up Uber?” Putting aside competition and winning or losing, I am also curious if from the perspective of economic supply and demand, do the other debaters really support Uber’s entry into Taiwan?

Of course, the innovative services represented by Uber are bound to subvert existing business logic and destroy the traditional market order. Everything has many aspects, and I find that this is also related to everyone’s mentality. Some people adhere to the philosophy of “anti-X whenever something happens”, which sometimes inevitably makes them feel pity. To be honest, if we can boldly abandon certain stereotypes, only then can we get to the bottom of things and get to the crux of things!

Speaking of mentality, I recently read a book “[Mindset to Win](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010968342?utm_source=vista&ut m_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-202510)”, the book mentions two completely different mentality, which also shows that mentality will determine people’s values and original intention to treat others. The author of this book [Dr. Dweck] (https://www.ted.com/talks/carol_dweck_the_power_of_believing_that_you_can_improve?language=zh-tw), after years of research on different groups, found that people have two mentality, namely “stereotype mentality” and “growth mentality”.

People with a “stereotyped mentality” are always eager to prove themselves and divide all results into success or failure. On the other hand, people with a “growth mindset” are optimistic about all their own characteristics and regard their basic qualities as the starting point, which can be changed and grown through hard work, accumulated experience and the help of others.

While reading the book, I kept asking myself: Oh, do I have a stereotyped mentality of eagerly pursuing success? Or do you have a growth mentality of taking things easy and becoming more courageous with every setback?

[This book](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010968342?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommen d&utm_campaign=ap-202510)’s Viewpoint is very simple and clear, but it is extremely interesting to read! The author has collected a large number of cases to support this, and simply wants to tell everyone: Although genes will affect our intelligence and talent, the characteristics that affect a person’s success are not fixed or rigid at birth. In other words, only having a healthy mentality can help shape correct values.

An ancient saying goes: “Live until you are old and learn until you are old.” Although this statement sounded a bit cliché before, it makes me feel more and more profound now. In addition to the fact that I am getting older, I think it may also be because my mentality can keep pace with the times, right?

There is no doubt that mentality will change a person’s behavior, and will also have an impact on learning and growth, and will naturally have an impact on interpersonal relationships and lifelong achievements. At this moment when we embark on the journey of life, we not only need comrades in the same field, but also need to have a built-in growth mindset-that is, to be able to develop the brain’s ability to learn and solve problems.
