The reason why human beings are great is that they continue to accumulate knowledge and then stand on the shoulders of their predecessors and keep climbing up to create the current civilization. You will find that the progress of all things now proceeds in this way, whether it is computers, mobile phones, or today’s AI. There is always a template first, and everyone’s wisdom is gathered to make it iterate quickly.
This is the best model for human development, so when we grow up in life, we must also follow this code: we cannot go against nature, and we cannot build everything from scratch. We must use existing templates and theories to continuously innovate, so that we can develop in the most efficient and adaptable way to human nature. We continue to accumulate our own templates, and then use these templates to cross-combine with each other to create newer knowledge templates. If this accumulation continues, it is not difficult to imagine that our lives will continue to iterate…
- When you are reading a book and get inspiration, record it immediately and turn it into your database.
- When you feel something while watching a video, record it and use it next time.
- When you see a great marketing plan, think deeply and deconstruct its module into your own, so you can use it next time.
- Taking other people’s knowledge and theory modules and turning them into our own is the most important thing we have to do.
- Integrating other people’s theories when doing knowledge management is a highly efficient thing.
- Writing programs to integrate other people’s codes is also an efficient thing.
- When writing songs, it is efficient to use the chords created by others to write songs.
So don’t invent your own chords, don’t come up with your own theories, don’t write your own functions, just use other people’s patterns to modify them. This is the best way. I have been studying the famous software Heptabase recently. When it was first released, I became a member of it as soon as possible, and along the way I saw a lot of use only recently. I really appreciate the way it uses card box notes as its own structure.
Heptabase empowers you to visually make sense of your learning, research, and projects.
This is also a product developed by what I call “standing on the shoulders of those who came before me”. It also integrates many functions of Notion and Trello. I think it fits the mod theory I wrote above very well. We can use the note-taking software Heptabase to continuously build our own knowledge database. Of course, other note-taking software can also do these things, but Heptabase can use screens to plan cards, arrange them in a graphical whiteboard format, and directly pull them for use. This is a very efficient way to use it, and I like it very much. The larger the card database, the easier it is to change it to a new project.
I am a visual person, and putting messy pictures, text, and forms on it is a good way to stimulate my brain. When you have some business management experience or plans, we can write the experience into content cards, experience cards and template cards. A card is like a reusable function. You can use it directly when you want to use it, or modify the content inside to become new content. Many different things are carried out according to similar processes, so if we evolve the project tasks into a card-form library, we can quickly build the project. For example: when we want to create a new brand, we can write the process into a card. When you want to create a new brand next time, you can directly pull it in. For example, when you want to find a designer to submit a case, you can also write down all the things that need to be handled on a card. Next time you want to send a contract, you can directly pull up a whiteboard to plan the case. Every project, every process and every specification can be turned into cards for reuse. This is what I said above:
We must stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and build our wisdom.
Then, we cross-combine our wisdom to form updated knowledge for use. This is doing “iteration”, this is doing “compound interest”. The effect of compound interest will double and ferment over time, so if you want to live a more relaxed life, you must first let the things in your brain double and grow.
Remarks:
The above article is also composed of three or four cards that I used to record my usual thoughts on this topic. Collecting fragments of experience to complete an article is a method used by many people, and it is indeed very useful. So, whether you want to write articles, record videos, develop products, or run a company… as long as you can continue to accumulate knowledge, you will be able to pull others away. Having said that, when your brain understands more things, you can [dimension reduction attack] (https://wiki.mbalib.com/zh-tw/dimensionality reduction attack) your competitors.
