I haven’t watched a movie in a long time!

Because of the recommendation from netizens, I decided to take a break from my busy schedule this afternoon. I walked from the office to the nearby Guobin Changchun Theater and watched a movie. This movie is called “The North Wind of Insomnia Blows Love”. As the name suggests, the main theme is love! When I heard this title, I immediately thought of “The North Wind and the Sun” in “Aesop’s Fables”. It made me wonder for a long time: Who is the North Wind in this movie? And who is the sun?

After doing some research online, I discovered that this was not the case. Having said that, this film is a remake of the “Amazon Top Ten of the Year” best-selling novel “[The North Wind of Insomnia Blows Love] (https://www.sanmin.com.tw/Product/index/001182761)” (The Space between the lines). It’s just that this novel, which has been out for ten years, has been out of print for a long time. I hope there will be a chance to re-publish it.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the movie theaters that should have been crowded during the summer vacation still only had two or three kittens… At three o’clock in the afternoon, including me, there were only five viewers in the audience to watch “[The North Wind Blows Love in Insomnia] (https://www.chinatimes.com/realtimenews/20200707003322-260404)”. It was really pitiful, and it was quite hard to think about it.

Before the movie started, I greeted the silver-haired couple sitting next to me (looked like a couple, right?). Unexpectedly, when the movie was over, I heard the aunt muttering, “It’s boring!” and the two of them left in a hurry. I guess maybe it was the open ending that made Auntie feel a little disappointed? Or maybe the heroine is in a marriage, but she longs for love, and the plot arrangement puzzles her?

A movie-watching experience from multiple perspectives

Although the film does not have a clear ending, I do not think this film is boring, and I am even willing to give it a good rating. In fact, as early as the beginning of the film, I saw Alexander Fehling, who plays the male protagonist, sitting on a public transport with a half-smiling expression… Well, I knew at that time that the German female director Vanessa Jopp would definitely not disappoint me.

I even think that if everyone appreciates the acting skills of the male and female protagonists, or still has a desire for love, then it is actually good to watch it a few times if you have time to support the endangered film industry!

Spending two hours watching this movie not only liberated my body and mind, but for me who is used to writing emails, it actually touched me deeply and resonated with my heart. In addition to being in the Internet age, maybe it’s also because I met a certain girlfriend because of the fish and goose trip, right? Things have changed, and watching movies from the multiple perspectives of viewers and creators will give you even more different experiences and feelings.

If you watch this movie as a single, you will naturally be attracted by the “island effect” created by this movie, as well as the superb acting skills of the male and female protagonists. But if I switch to the perspective of a creator who has written scripts and published novels, I will examine the film from a different position, including the scenes and symbols that constantly appear in the film. At the same time, I will also be doing two things while watching the movie. In addition to being concerned about the flow of the plot, I am also distracted by thinking about how the screenwriter wants to lay out the plot? And how should the director of this film arrange the scenes?

The male and female protagonists have very few scenes opposite each other in this film, but their every move and gesture is very dramatic. Only after reading the news did I realize that they were actually a pair of lovers in real life (https://stars.udn.com/star/story/10090/4737385). Don’t know about this [coincidence](https://movies.yahoo.com.tw/article/%E5%BD%B1%E5%B8%9D%E5%BD%B1%E5%90%8E%E4%BA%92%E7%82%BA%E5%89%8D%E4%BB%BB%E 5%A4%B1%E7%9C%A0%E7%9A%84%E5%8C%97%E9%A2%A8%E5%90%B9%E5%87%BA%E5%A4%A7%E7%88%86%E6%96%99-140901268.html), any bonus points for them for making this movie? But overall, I believe it will definitely not be “boring”.

Memorable movie scenes

In this movie, there are several scenes that left a deep impression on me: except for the scene where the male protagonist Leo sets off fireworks on the roof, which quietly ignited the audience’s inner desire… and the actions of Amy’s other half after learning about her spiritual affair fully revealed the cowardice and uneasiness of a middle-aged man. It also highlighted the dramatic tension of the film and foreshadowed the climax at the end of the film.

In addition, the scene where Amy talks about the north wind blowing into the corner of the house through letters is also unforgettable. The way she curls up in bed is not only touching, but also the sexy look with light and shadow falling on her face, which fully explains the subtle mentality of longing for the nourishment of love and the fear of being hurt. Amy squinted her eyes and imagined Leo approaching her gently from behind and caressing her body with his arms… In those short few minutes, people deeply felt that the biting north wind was also somewhat tender.

Letters serve as a carrier for an encounter between two people on an isolated island. This love adventure also intertwines two straight lines that could never intersect together like a ball of yarn. Daniel, the author of the original novel. Daniel Glattauer is obviously very observant, and through his wonderful narrative techniques, this story, which is not originally complicated, can appropriately show the loneliness and dialogue.

To be honest, the love movie “The North Wind of Insomnia Blows Love” was a bit untimely. It happened to be hit by a difficult epidemic. Otherwise, I think Taiwan’s box office would have been better, right?

It’s funny, I haven’t watched a movie in a long time, and even buying movie tickets feels a bit unfamiliar! I wanted to experience the fun of watching movies again, but unexpectedly, these short two hours were like the auspicious moments of life; perhaps, “The Insomniac North Wind Blows Love” will be one of the unforgettable chapters for me this summer.

Regarding the plot of this movie, I will not go into details here. Friends who are interested can take the time to watch it. Of course, you are also welcome to share your movie-watching experience with me!

Writing a letter is like kissing, only without lips.
