To welcome the era of platform economy: What are the lessons for operators?

To welcome the advent of the platform economy era, what are the lessons for operators - Cover image (opens in a new tab)

Since leaving the media circle, I haven’t observed the development of Taiwan’s Internet industry so closely for a while, but recently, I unexpectedly discovered that the local Internet market seems to be recovering somewhat. The trend of innovation is becoming more and more prosperous, and some refreshing new services and new websites are being launched one after another, and there are also reports that some time-honored traditional manufacturing companies are beginning to expand into areas such as digital or e-commerce.

Even some companies that appear in our lives as platforms have gradually found their own business models and profit directions. This is of course a gratifying thing, and it also makes me full of expectations for the future of Taiwan’s digital technology industry. It also makes me think:

In this era of platform economy, how should operators face customers and competitors? How to improve the user experience?

Diversified aspects of platform management

The operation of a multi-sided platform is not just about price. From getting rid of competitors to improving service quality and treating customers well, there are too many aspects that platform operators should consider carefully.

A person’s pattern and tolerance will affect the layout of the entire life, as well as the views on people and things, especially those in supervisory positions, whether they can make the entire team grow and gather centripetal force. Both “pattern” and “magnitude” are very important.

Insight into customer needs is key

To welcome the era of platform economy, operators must not only observe the development trends of the overall market, but also try to understand the thoughts, needs and usage scenarios of different customers. Only by deeply understanding customers’ consumption behavior can we create a platform that is deeply loved and that everyone is happy to use.

Starting a business is difficult, but others always say it is easier. Just like when we look at the cases of Uber and Airbnb, we think their business models seem to be very simple? But it’s not.

As the saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Building a successful platform does not happen overnight and requires a lot of hard work and accumulation. On the road to starting a business, I really hope to work hard with platform operators. come on!

The platform needs to provide services for users with multiple roles at the same time. These users have different economic status, motivations, purposes, and incentives. Deciding who to charge and who not to charge is a very complex decision for platform operators, especially decisions made for certain types of users, which will unknowingly affect other types of users.
