July 5, 2021
As we enter July, it seems that there is still some time before the lockdown is lifted. Well, what should you do on a hot summer day? In addition to sleeping, watching TV dramas and doing sports, reading books is actually a good pastime and a good way to educate yourself!
Although I rarely go to bookstores during this period, there are actually many, many books I want to read! Here, I would also like to express my special thanks to my friends from the publishing house, who continue to provide me with rich spiritual food even though I have not been able to leave home recently.
I received several books today. In addition to the previously introduced “[Hacker Thinking: Catching out the irrationalities in life and optimizing your life] (https://www.vistacheng.com/2021/06/hacking-life.html)”, the book that I couldn’t put down the most was undoubtedly a linguist and critic. “[Thinking and Organizing: A book most read by Tokyo University students and Kyoto University students! )》.
Professor [Toyama Shihiko] (https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/101023), who just passed away at the age of ninety-six (November 3, 1923 - July 30, 2020) at the end of July last year, is a scholar and writer whom I respect very much, and I have read many of his works in the past. This book “[Thinking and Organizing: A book that has been read by most students from Dongda University and Beijing University of Science and Technology!” ](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010894750?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap -books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-202107)” has actually been published for more than thirty-five years. Its sales volume in Japan has reached 2.58 million copies, benefiting countless students.
In fact, I had read this book as early as twelve years ago. The earliest Traditional Chinese version was titled “[Thinking like this, life will be different: I would have known better thinking and organizing techniques] (https://www.booklife.com.tw/product-detail/T0700020)”. The first time I read it, it left a deep impression on me. I am very happy to have the opportunity to read this book again, but it is a pity that the author is no longer alive.
However, although “Thinking and Organizing: A book that has been read by most students from Tokyo University and Beijing University!” ” has been out for a long time, but this book has been able to last forever and remains on the best-seller list. It shows that the content is excellent and will not be out of touch with the times.
At the beginning of this book, the author asks everyone: “Are you a hang-glider or an airplane person?”
The author pointed out that hang gliders and airplanes look very similar and can fly in the sky. However, the former cannot fly alone because it lacks an engine and power system. The school happens to be a place where hang gliders are cultivated. Students obey and receive education, but lack the spirit of independent thinking.
The author encourages everyone to become solo pilots, so he wrote this book to tell us how to develop good habits of creative thinking and then efficiently construct our own knowledge system.
So, how do you think creatively? The author believes that you can extend the time before breakfast, get [inspiration] from all directions (https://www.vistacheng.com/2020/04/6-ways-to-get-inspired-to-write.html), and then mix it with the materials to let the ideas sleep and mature, waiting for fermentation.
While waiting for the knowledge to mature, we can consciously use our subconscious to create secondary creations through the editing of knowledge. The author also encourages everyone to read more, listen more, ask more questions, and make good use of chance.
When it comes to using your morning time, I also feel this. Some friends may know that I get up very early and go out for exercise after five o’clock, but in fact I used to be a night owl, always craving for the beauty of silence late at night. But staying up late is ultimately bad for your health. As I get older, I quickly get rid of this habit and instead use the early morning time to exercise, think and write, which feels more efficient.
In the process of reading extensively and thinking creatively, sorting out your reading experience and your own thoughts is a necessary process. In order to improve the quality of knowledge, the author recommends that you abstract information and make good use of notes and cards to organize it, which is a good way! This happens to be the original intention of my efforts in running and promoting the “[I love writing notes] (https://www.facebook.com/groups/note.taking.club)” community in the past few years.
The author points out that never turn a card into a bat in the night. It means that although taking notes is important, don’t excerpt every paragraph and sentence in the book. This not only wastes time, but also highlights your ignorance. When copying the key points on the card, please be sure to indicate the source and title. This will facilitate indexing and organization afterwards.
He also urged not to rush to take notes when reading, but to wait until you have read two pages or a chapter before going back and copying down the key points. In addition, we can also use the accumulated reading method to lock in a topic and read a large number of them at once. You know, sometimes you can remember the content better if you concentrate on reading.
When thinking, if you have any ideas in your head, write them down first. Once you start writing, don’t stop. The ideas you write down can be allowed to sleep for a while before you look back at them. Sometimes they will have a mature effect, and you may even have different inspirations when you read them afterwards!
The author also reminds everyone that after reading the book, it must be compiled into an article as soon as possible! Otherwise, once the heat wears off, it’s easy to forget the key points. Reading this reminds me that students in writing classes are usually encouraged to input more, think more, and output more… Well, I think the principles are the same.
Waishan Shihigu The professor not only encourages reading, but also recommends that everyone try writing more! He believes that you don’t need to pay too much attention to details such as the order or logic of writing. In short, just write first! Because the more you write, the more you will gain insights, and your mind will become clearer and clearer!
Overall, if we only regard the brain as a messy warehouse for storing knowledge, then it will be difficult to output ideas that are impressive enough to impress people. By organizing our thoughts, we can transform fragmented information into vivid ideas and avoid being in a hurry at important moments! In this way, you can improve the quality of your thinking during thinking exercises anytime and anywhere, turning your brain into a creative factory.
After reading this masterpiece written by Professor [Waishan Shibigu] (https://health.tvbs.com.tw/regimen/317199), I have benefited a lot. I sincerely recommend it to everyone who has a strong thirst for knowledge! Let us read, take notes and build your own knowledge system!
