Hello everyone! I’m Vista, happy to meet you in the air.
Just now, I read a news article from the Central News Agency, and I suddenly discovered that from January 1st to February 21st this year, 46 of the 52 days were rainy days in Taipei City. In other words, there were only 6 days without rain. The number of rainy days set a new record for January and February in the past 24 years.
Since it is inconvenient to go out on rainy days, it is also a good choice to seize the time to read some books. I was reading at home these two days and came across the “[Achieved Diary: 5 minutes a day, making a “done list”, focusing on accumulating “small achievements” to lay the foundation for success] (https://www.eslite.com/product/1001251382638303)” published by Caishi Culture in November 2017. I thought it was very interesting! This is a small but meaningful book. I deliberately put down the work at hand and started reading immediately. Unexpectedly, the more I read, the more interesting it became, and the dialogue with the author seemed to gain feedback and resonance.
The author of this book [Nagatani Kenichi](https://www.amazon.co.jp/本-Nagatani-Kenichi/s?rh=n%3A465392%2Cp_27%3A Nagatani+Kenichi) is a behavioral science expert from Japan. He has coached more than 12,000 students and successfully helped them change their thinking and actions. The author said that it is not our fault that we have negative thoughts, but we have been cultivated since childhood. Therefore, if you want to reverse negative thinking, the key is to “shift your gaze” and see what you have “achieved.”
The author points out that even some small or inconspicuous successful experiences in life will make people feel that they are making progress every day, realize that they have “actually experienced a lot of success”, and then believe that “they are also very powerful.” In this way, your self-image will gradually improve, and you will see yourself positively in a good cycle, and develop the ability to continue to act. Stop blindly pursuing the so-called “better”, try to discover the beauty of the present, and start from what you can do. This small change will bring us huge growth.
Kenichi Nagatani, the author of “Achieved Diary” mentioned that “little things completed” are more important than you think. I really agree with this. Don’t think that some trivial things are not important, or that you have to do something grand to be successful. In fact, this is not the case. For example, the things mentioned in the book such as organizing the desk, fixing the printer settings, etc., may seem ordinary, that is, small things in daily life…but if you think about it from another angle, isn’t it something that is very meaningful to you?
Our lives are often hampered by various trivial matters, but if we can persevere, it feels very rewarding. Even if it is a trivial thing, for me, being able to complete these small things is not a very meaningful “small achievement”?
The book also mentions an interesting point, that is, finding “done things” requires the use of “glasses” and “lenses”, two tools for self-discovery. Of course, the glasses discussed in the book are not myopia or reading glasses worn by ordinary people, but:
*Happy glasses that can detect changes in “emotions”.
- Digital glasses that can see changes in “numbers”.
- A person’s glasses that can see “people’s reactions”.
Many people are busy striving for fame and wealth, but ignore the importance of happiness. Even if they achieve success and fame, they are not happy. Think about it, life is short. In addition to pursuing fame and fortune, isn’t what we want to pursue most of the time just a simple pleasure?
When it comes to finding the “digital glasses” for growth, the author of this book specifically mentions the three key points of time, value and habituation. Think about it carefully, as modern people, we must also have the ability to interpret data!
Finally, the author also tells us that we need to wear a pair of glasses that can observe others. This also reminds me of my favorite “observation on the road”. In order to more keenly observe the mood of friends around us, we must be able to match the three lenses of gratitude, expressions and actions at any time!
Kenichi Nagatani, the internationally renowned author as an inventor, encourages us to choose one thing from the daily “to-do list” once a week and write down our reflections. As long as you answer the following four questions in order and write down your reflections in the form of questions and answers, you can achieve in-depth thinking:
- First question, factual details: What exactly happened?
- The second question is to analyze the reasons: Why can it be done?
- The third question, inner feelings: How do you actually feel at this moment?
- The fourth question, next step: What changes will be made starting from tomorrow?
Look, isn’t it very simple? This is the so-called “introspective essay”. You can also use “4W1H” to help you recall what tasks you have completed? Small changes in behavior will eventually lead to huge transformations.
So, how do we write a “did it diary”? The author says that you can enhance your sense of self-affirmation by following the following three steps.
The first step: record one to three “completed things” that day every day
The author tells us in the book, what is the difference between “finishing” and simply “finishing”? How do you find out what is “done”? Let you spend three to five minutes every day to write an “Achievements Diary”.
Step Two: Once a week, spend ten minutes writing an “introspective essay”
Choose one thing from the “Achieved Diary” every week and analyze in depth why it can be done? How do you feel in your heart? Not only will you discover that you actually have such emotions, you might also be able to find new goals through them.
The third step: Put into practice the changes that you can think of now.
Keep recording, find out the little things that you can do tomorrow to achieve your goals, and practice them over and over again. In this way, you can establish a “positive image” in your mind and bring about visible changes both internally and externally.
For example, I now use Logseq, a digital note-taking software, to record daily events. Just spending a few minutes every day to record your thoughts and gains in a columnar manner will be of great help to your self-growth!
Simply put, the book “Achieved Diary” teaches us to enhance our sense of self-affirmation by completing tasks. It only takes 5 minutes a day to record the “Achievements List”, and you can accumulate many “small achievements” and lay a good foundation for success.
Although this book is not long, it is very enjoyable to read. I also encourage everyone to make good use of pen and paper or digital tools to record their own growth.
