Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year, and Vista is here to wish you a happy new year. I wish you that all your wishes will come true in the new year, and that the Year of the Tiger will come prosperously!

Every New Year, everyone always has some expectations for themselves. Don’t know what your new hope is this year? What goals do you want to achieve?

In today’s program, I want to talk to you about keywords. Speaking of keywords, do you know what keywords are?

According to Wikipedia’s Introduction, keywords specifically refer to the words used by individual media when making and using indexes.

Simply put, keywords originated from library science, and keyword search is one of the main methods of Internet search. For example: we can use the title or part of the title, subtitle, and author name of a book as keywords to query book information. Nowadays, not only book retrieval, but also the familiar Internet search services such as Google, Baidu or Bing are mostly conducted using keyword retrieval.

When mentioning keywords, some friends may immediately think of SEO, which is the so-called “search engine optimization”. SEO is indeed very important. I have written a series of articles about SEO before in the [Economic Daily’s Digital Marketing Column] (https://money.udn.com/money/story/122331/6004709). If you are interested, I will share it with you another day.

Today is the first day of the new year. Facing a new beginning, everyone wants to be the best version of themselves! Therefore, I especially want to talk to you about self-improvement and building a personal brand.

Of course, there are many issues worth discussing in this area. Let’s start with how to find your own keywords today!

In today’s era of information explosion, there are so many new and interesting things surrounding our lives every day. We often meet many people by chance, but it is a pity that after a hasty encounter, everyone often returns to their own work or life circle. Therefore, how to let others remember you has become a very important thing!

If you want everyone to recognize you, or even want to become a household name, there are of course many ways. For example, we can enrich our knowledge through reading and further study, or change our appearance through clothing and styling… etc. These are all good practices.

If you want to build a personal brand, I would suggest you first find your own keywords.

Speaking of personal branding, I have also launched an online course called “[Personal Brand Management Practice] (https://bit.ly/3rMfBpV)” on the Yotta platform in the past. I know that the topic of personal branding has been very popular in recent years, but I also know that some friends have some misunderstandings about it…

Every time I talk about the importance of building a personal brand, some friends will be confused: they think that only entrepreneurs, experts, scholars, opinion leaders or Internet celebrities need personal brands. In fact, this idea is somewhat narrow-minded. Of course, you can think of building a personal brand as a way of packaging yourself. But in my opinion, personal brand is more about each of us practicing the value of life; in other words, living how we want to live.

Have you ever thought about it? What kind of person do you want yourself to be? The meaning of life often lies not in length, but in breadth and depth. In the past, I always felt that I could accomplish nothing. Although there are still many areas that need to be improved, I am also glad that I can grow through cross-field learning because I like reading and writing.

If you want to build a personal brand, I would recommend that you first find out your keywords and positioning, and carefully evaluate your interests, expertise, and style of doing things. Next, start taking stock of the resources you have at hand and choose a direction suitable for development.

Back to our topic today, let me talk to you about how to find your own keywords. The so-called “own keywords” are those that can directly express one’s personality traits, strengths, interests, majors or goals. If you can use metaphors to describe your characteristics, or even give actual examples, you will be more able to impress the other person.

For example, there may be many writing experts in the market, but there are not many teachers who are good at marketing, can create websites, and understand media communication and management. At this time, some people may think of Vista!

When you have some impressive keywords, it will naturally be easier to attract others’ attention. For example, I once wrote an article before, mentioning that I can complete a blog post within half an hour, while also doing a good job in image editing, article layout and shelving, and promotion.

Because many friends have read this article, and many people have heard me share how I completed the above tasks within half an hour, so when everyone later encounters problems with copywriting or self-media management, they will think of me and discuss with me how to improve their writing skills.

Although I did not major in Chinese, and I did not even study business administration or marketing in college, but as I got closer to writing and marketing, keywords such as blogger, columnist, and professional lecturer gradually became connected to me.

Having said that, when certain labels or keywords start to be attached to you, it will naturally expand others’ awareness of you, and also give you the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, and at the same time increase your visibility through actions and output. Let people who are strangers to you quickly find a way to have a close connection with you.

Takuhiro Fuji, a well-known piano teacher in Japan and also a best-selling author, mentioned in the book “[Super Successful Piano Classroom Workplace Encyclopedia: Seven Things Not Taught in School] (https://bit.ly/3scDW8G)”: The work of finding keywords is a kind of work of “literalizing” one’s strengths and characteristics. When you start doing this, you’re likely to discover things about yourself you’ve never seen before.

I really like what the author said: “When you are in the process of finding or sharpening your own keywords, you are also sharpening yourself.”

So, how do you find your keywords? Let me share with you a few of my own practices:

The first method: self-inventory

You can find a notebook or use a digital note-taking tool such as Notion or Evernote to list your interests, strengths, and strengths in detail, and then ask yourself three questions:

  1. Who am I?
  2. What am I doing?
  3. What makes me different?

If I were to answer these questions, I would probably say:

My name is Vista. I love reading and writing. I am a cross-field learner. I have studied electronics, asset management, cultural and creative and industrial engineering in the past. I have also worked in the Internet industry and media circles. I am currently a professional lecturer, columnist and consultant.

In the process of answering these questions, it can not only help you sort out your past academic background, but also explore your own interests, majors and personality traits, and also clarify your career direction.

The second method: listen to other people’s opinions

Sometimes, we may not be the ones who know ourselves best. At this time, you may wish to refer to the opinions of your elders, relatives, friends, colleagues or classmates. You can outline a few questions about yourself, or even try to design a questionnaire, and then ask relatives and friends around you to answer.

This approach can help you understand yourself in the eyes of others. You know, there may be a big gap between who we think we are and who we see in others’ eyes. Just feeling good about ourselves does not actually help much in our growth! Therefore, in addition to self-inventory and review, I would suggest that you should also listen to the valuable opinions of others.

The third method: Search online

I don’t know if you have ever tried entering your name, nickname or nickname into a search engine to see what [digital footprints] you have left on the Internet (https://futuretalent.school/zh/blog/how-to-do-seo-yourself)? Or what others say about you? Every once in a while, I will enter my name to check. In addition to taking this opportunity to review the effectiveness of my own SEO for my website, I am also curious about what comments and reports about me are there on the Internet?

For example, I have a cousin who teaches at National Taiwan University. I had searched her name on the Internet before, and not only did I find a lot of academic papers and research results she had published over the years, but I also unexpectedly found many comments about her teaching by Taiwanese university students, such as her good conversational skills, very nice people, and the teacher’s attentiveness in class, etc.

Through the above three methods, you can help you understand yourself more comprehensively. Of course, you can also find your own keywords from the information collected from everywhere.

Finally, I would like to share with you a book that I discovered by accident and found it very interesting to read. The title of this book is “Keywords in Life: Exploration of Wisdom by Monks, Physicians and Philosophers”. This is the three authors of the best-selling book “The Great Questions of Life Wisdom from Three Friends”, including: Matthew the Monk, Christopher the Physician, and Alexander the Philosopher. The three of them have joined forces to bring readers their own questions, explorations, in-depth research, understanding, and awareness about life.

They use easy-to-understand words and 180 keywords to condense and reproduce the philosophical essence of life, trying to help everyone lead to a better life at this moment full of unknown challenges and uncertainty.

From various aspects such as love of life, failure, calmness, anxiety, Jesus, Buddha, ideals, success, aging, etc., the book provides readers with some people and things worth paying attention to and thinking about in life, and tries to explore the wisdom of life. The book also tells the various doubts that people may have when facing life, such as: What goals in life should we pursue? How to relieve pain in life? Can we truly feel happy? Thinking deeply along with the words of the three authors will enable us to have mature thoughts and deep inspiration.

Throughout our lives, each of us has our own life issues. I hope today’s program can help you find your keywords smoothly and create a better future.
