I don’t know when it started, maybe it was after my horizons were gradually opened that I could truly realize that life does not need to stick to forms or be tied down by anything external.

Think about it, the same goes for reading. Everyone has their own preferred way of reading. Some people need to read without interruption, while others like to read on the sofa at home, sipping coffee and reading at the same time.

My reading speed is not slow, and the amount of reading is quite considerable. I have shared some reading methods at the morning reading meeting held by TeSA before. Today I want to talk to you about the ritual and rhythm of reading. I think that if it is something that happens once in a while, you can ignore what psychologists call rituals. But if you want to invest in it for a long time, or hope to enter a state of longing quickly, then you might as well try to establish a ritual and rhythm that suits you.

This is true for reading, and it seems to be the same for writing. Now, wherever the person is? In the office, coffee shop or 7-11, I can open the iPad and read a book at leisure. And as long as I open the MacBook Pro, I can write as naturally as turning on a faucet. In addition to not relying on inspiration, it is more possible to find a rhythm and rhythm in the constant accumulation.

Inspiration from Japanese calligraphy

I still remember one time when I went to Junkudo Bookstore, and I happened to find a book called “The Technique of Reading Books” (https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E8%AA%AD%E6%9B%B8%E3%81%AE%E6%8A%80% E6%B3%95-%E8%AA%B0%E3%81%A7%E3%82%82%E6%9C%AC%E7%89%A9%E3%81%AE%E7%9F%A5%E8%AD%98%E3%81%8C%E8%BA% AB%E3%81%AB%E3%81%A4%E3%81%8F%E7%86%9F%E8%AA%AD%E8%A1%93%E3%83%BB%E9%80%9F%E8%AA%AD%E8%A1%93%E3% I was deeply impressed by the books written by The Japanese author Yu Sato talked about his reading method and felt that it is suitable for reference for some friends preparing for exams. He divided basic reading into speed reading (5 minutes), familiar reading (30 minutes) and finally 5 minutes of summary and integration.

The model mentioned by the author in the book may be suitable for friends who must read books every day but have limited time at their disposal. I believe that if you try this pattern several times and then adjust your reading rhythm, you will be able to effectively control your own reading context and progress.

German psychologist Lorelies Singerhoff believes that in our society, regularly repeated and symbolic social activities are actually “rituals”. I also find it interesting to see this Japanese author develop the “one chapter a day” reading pattern into a ritual.

Good habits can make us mentally stable, calm in dealing with things, and able to better face the demands of life. Therefore we should take care of rituals.

You must know that with specific rituals or rhythms, reading is not a painful task, but can truly enter our souls and flesh.

The Japanese love to talk about official affairs (work skills), and what’s great is that they often have a system or framework that is “reasonable and legit.” In the future, I will share more useful work techniques, hoping to help everyone come in handy in life!
