The scarcity and preciousness of time
A busy columnist, lecturer and consultant while also pursuing a PhD at university. As you can imagine, time is naturally the scarcest resource for me!
When I woke up this morning, I thought to myself, it’s already May 21st. But when I turned on my computer, I suddenly realized that today is May 19th. Suddenly, I felt dizzy, as if I had struck a gold mine! Two extra days magically appeared in my life. oh! It was so amazing, like a gift from the universe.
When I thought I missed the deadline, I suddenly found out that I still had a few days left to use, and I couldn’t help but feel a little lucky. I wonder if you have ever had such an experience? Well, this is who I am today.
The end of May is approaching quietly, and time, the elusive thief, seems to be sprinting away. The work and schoolwork left for me can be described as a “mountain”. The pressure is getting bigger and bigger, and the ticking clock keeps reminding me to face everything in front of me.
Time management rules for eating frogs
So what does one do when faced with the challenge of having too many tasks and too little time? The strategy is simple: Seize the moment. It’s all about prioritizing tasks methodically and firmly and then tackling them one by one. I want to share a little trick with you, that is: eat the biggest frog first. In other words, if you can tackle your toughest tasks head-on, the rest will look easy by comparison.
Well, the so-called “eat a frog” naturally does not really require you to eat a frog alive! This one by Brian Tracy The concept of time management advocated by Tracy originally originated from what the famous American writer Mark Twain said: “If the first thing you do every morning is eat a live frog, the rest of the day will go more smoothly, because you know very well that this may be the worst thing that has happened to you all day.” (Eat a live frog every day.) morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.)
Later, Brian Tracy quoted this conversation in his book “If you want to succeed, eat the frog first”. He told us that the so-called “frog” is everyone’s biggest and most important work; in other words, if we don’t take immediate action on it, we are likely to delay it, leading to delays.
Therefore, we must be brave enough to eat frogs and face calmly those things that we find most difficult to deal with, least want to touch, but are also the most important. As you can imagine, with these two days of “extra” time, I will urge myself to roll up my sleeves and prepare to sprint. It’s time to get down to business and win.
For anyone reading this and feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list, remember not to panic and take the most important tasks one step at a time. Start with the most challenging missions and the feeling of accomplishment will power you through the rest of the journey. Well, let’s get through this together.
