Time flies, and a quarter of 2015 has passed in the blink of an eye. Whether you are an office worker or a student, you must seize the time!
I remember my last article “Should I take the certification test?” After it was published by Kuqing, people immediately sent me messages on Facebook to discuss related issues with me. I am also very happy that through this channel, I can explore career development and life matters with more young friends.
One day, I received another message on Facebook: “Hi, I just read your recent article and I have some feelings.”
“Really? How do you say it?”
“I actually don’t have much confidence in my work. Although I am interested in certain fields, I don’t have the courage to do it, which makes it easy for me to get tied up. I also want to take some certificates and licenses to increase my abilities, but in the end I still feel a bit empty.”
Although this young friend is still in graduate school, he already understands the principle of Wei Yu Chong Miao, “I am now in graduate school. After studying for half a semester, I found that I have no motivation to prepare for the accounting certificate exam. Some people say that some jobs will only become interesting after you have done them for a long time. Is this true?”
After hearing this, I was in a daze for a while. Many people spend their whole lives mediocre just for five buckets of rice. There is nothing wrong with making money to support the family, but it would be a pity if the work is just to make ends meet. Especially for newcomers who have just entered the workplace, wouldn’t it be great if they could think clearly about their own interests and take into account both professional and dual-track development?
After obtaining the graduate student’s consent, I excerpted her question. I want to use this topic as an introduction to talk to you about how to build confidence in the workplace!
Just like when people get along with each other, many times they may not hit it off immediately or have a happy conversation. It always takes some adjustment before they can truly open their minds to tolerance and acceptance, and then achieve selfless interaction and communication.
When we first come into contact with work in a certain professional field, we will surely encounter many bottlenecks, and even get stuck from time to time, which is a common phenomenon. If there is a supervisor or senior who can lead you, you may be able to unlock the achievements of a novice quickly; but you may also have to explore for a long time on your own before you can gradually understand the gist and methods of the work.
Everyone’s personality is different. Some people are naturally energetic and know how to socialize, while others are shy and introverted and only know how to work quietly. There is a big difference in nature.
“Rome was not built in a day.” Building self-confidence does not happen overnight, especially in the work field. I think it is not impossible. It just requires some methods and practice.
Taking this student who is studying at the Institute of Social Science and Technology as an example, it seems that she is not very enthusiastic about accounting in the undergraduate department, but she clearly knows that she is interested in social work, psychology, culture and art. I think if you can figure out your interests, that’s the first step towards success.
If you already know that you are interested in a certain field, I really recommend that you spend time and effort investing in it. Like culture and art? Then go see more art exhibitions and stand on the shoulders of giants and look into the distance. I usually dabble in more artistic information, immerse myself in the artistic atmosphere, and cultivate my own unique perspectives and appreciation abilities. Over time, you can naturally strengthen your artistic literacy and develop your own opinions on things in this field.
The first step to developing self-confidence is to find something you love and invest a lot of time and effort into it. Then, the second step is to only compare yourself with yesterday’s self, hoping to make a little progress every day, without worrying that you are not doing well enough, or worrying about comparing yourself with others.
Next, it is to get rid of the inferiority complex. Everyone’s conditions and environment are different. Even if people are tall, short, fat or thin, everyone must have their own innate advantages and characteristics. Try to magnify your strengths and minimize your weaknesses, which can also enhance your self-confidence!
If the above methods are not effective, I think you can try “confidence hints”. If you hope to devote yourself to an art career in the future, you might as well write “I hope to be a curator” in a diary, or write down your thoughts and wishes on a sticky note, and then stick it somewhere you can see it at any time. On the one hand, I encourage myself, and on the other hand, I also remind myself to put more effort into realizing this dream.
Confidence can’t just stay in imagination forever, it must be realized with practical actions! No matter what is your favorite field? I would like to advise you to determine your ambition early and then work hard to implement it.
Malcolm Gladwell, a world-famous author who is famous for his best-selling books such as “Trends” and “Outliers”, once said that creativity is not something that comes randomly, but requires a lot of time to cultivate and practice. If you have figured out what you love most in life, then invest time in practicing it!
After you have “ten thousand hours” of experience, I believe you will be more sure of your major and naturally more confident!
