Last night, I participated in a book club with different attributes. This was the “Digital Power: Novice Group Fight” event hosted by “Super Digital Power” senior sister [Xiao Ke] (https://www.facebook.com/yoju.hsu). It aimed to enhance the understanding of financial statements through discussion and interaction.

Investment and financial management feel far away from me, because I am out of my comfort zone, so when I signed up for this book club, I was actually a little scared. As I mentioned before when I introduced myself to the club - I feel ashamed to say that I have returned all the things I have learned to the teacher.

Whether it was the previous activities back at my parents’ home or the discussions and sharings of many outstanding senior sisters in the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/FinanceMJ/), in addition to feeling ashamed, I also felt that I should take action, not only to relearn the knowledge of financial reporting, but also to understand different aspects of industrial operations.

Don’t give up your desire for knowledge!

Senior Sister Xiaoke planned this book club very carefully, and it is not difficult to see the clues from the relevant details such as the presentations, prizes and handouts she prepared. Just imagine, even the organizer put so much effort into preparing an event, how could I not study hard? Although the duck is innocent, we cannot let the duck continue to listen to thunder…

At the beginning of the event, she first introduced the Dreyfus Model. This is a model that analogizes the degree of skill learning into a ladder. It is divided into five levels from top to bottom: expert, proficient, competent, advanced novice and novice.

The meaning of each level is as follows:

*Expert: Go by your gut.

  • Proficient: In terms of skills, they can recognize the difference between their own skills and others, and can recognize their own mistakes by observing others, forming a faster learning speed than novices. In terms of position, you can clearly know your position and your rank in the overall system.

  • Competent: Able to solve problems.

  • Advanced novice: unwilling to think it all. Statistics show that most people fall into this level; when management assigns tasks to senior novices, they consider each task to be equally important, and unclear priorities mean they are unable to recognize the relevance of each task. Therefore, when managers recognize that work needs to be given to senior novices, they must prioritize it.

  • Newbie: Requires instructions to work.

In the field of writing, I may be considered an expert or proficient; but in the field of financial reporting, I am a complete novice! Therefore, it is necessary to learn “one instruction and one action”.

As Sister Xiao Ke said, it takes a lot of practice to generate Muscle Memory(Muscle Memory). She also reminded me that financial reports are a three-dimensional concept, so reading financial reports requires establishing a new learning framework. It is best not to use the previous learning model in order to grasp the whole picture.

[Muscle Memory](https://medium.com/@enxi/%E5%A6%82%E4%BD%95%E5%AD%B8%E6%9C%83%E7%94%A8%E5%A4%96%E8%AA%9E%E5%AF%A It is a very magical thing. I don’t know why, but when you write tens of thousands of words, you really memorize them clearly.

This also reminds me of what Wan Wei Gang mentioned in the column of “Elite Daily Class Season 2” “[There is only one correct learning method] (http://blog.imbiplaza.net/?p=290)”. He pointed out that the effective learning methods are as follows:

  • For certain content, you should arrange certain intervals in your study time and do not study suddenly.

  • You can learn the same content in different ways in different scenarios.

  • You should take tests frequently to see if you have really mastered the relevant knowledge.

  • You need to make connections between newly learned knowledge and previous knowledge.

In order to learn to read financial statements, you have to do something. Thinking of the thinking circuit I used to teach students to write, I always ask everyone to first think about what goals they want to achieve? Looking back at the current stage?

So, I also made a table like this for myself this morning:

[The road in life is not in vain. From learning to write to understanding financial reports, muscle memory is generated through a lot of practice - Picture 3](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmNA4XgEVdOERML0TltmaI OFE6vmgcW9a2IsDuQhRrlNQrOcEGBb6VaJrxkhmFMr7Oj_qbd7A81gS7TBZO1MvQlTC2e0BmZU3geQu0aiOX vsUGYd0hqHOT3xFn0gfW4LkeVWR-5WIW4XUi/s1600/%25E5%25AD%25B8%25E7%25BF%2592%25E7%259C% 258B%25E6%2587%2582%25E8%25B2%25A1%25E5%258B%2599%25E5%25A0%25B1%25E8%25A1%25A8.jpg)

From learning to write to understanding financial reports, although the two fields are very different, there are always some common principles, and muscle memory can also be generated through extensive practice.

To be honest, my qualifications are dull and the time I have to use them is also very limited. I really don’t know how long it will take to go from the “current situation” to the “should be”? But I know that life is not a road in vain, and every step counts. Thank you, Senior Sister Xiao Ke, and many friends who have helped me along the way…
