Speaking of which, I have some fate with the young Dr. Li Xuanze. I still remember that he and I got acquainted through teacher Yu Weichang’s blogging course, and we were classmates for a while. At that time, I was deeply impressed by this top student from the Department of Medicine at National Taiwan University.

Unexpectedly, only a few months later, I would have the opportunity to sit in the audience and listen to a class where he shared his lecture notes. It was really interesting to think about it. In fact, I knew that this course was a gift from my friend “The Queen of Notes” [Ada] (https://www.facebook.com/adalin70). When she said that she would go north to attend Dr. Li’s lecture note-taking course recently, I quickly [registered online] (https://www.accupass.com/event/register/1504281007031446342076).

When it comes to taking notes, everyone must be familiar with it. Just think about it, who didn’t take notes when they were students? Even after entering the workplace, the frequency of taking notes is quite high. However, as the saying goes, “Everyone can change the tricks, and the tricks are different.” I guess that Dr. Li, who was born in the Department of Medicine, must have written many co-authors in the past, and he must have his own set of ideas.

I like taking notes very much. During the two years of studying for EMBA, I used Hackpad extensively to take notes. I also like to doodle or record inspiration on paper. In the past, when I was serving in the media, I would often go around interviewing entrepreneurs with a shorthand notebook and write down page after page of interview notes. Therefore, I am familiar with taking notes.

Do you need to study to take notes? I think the answer is yes, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many books on note-taking circulating in the market. Although Dr. Li is my friend on Facebook, I had never read his notes before, but just by reading Xuanze’s blog, I felt like I should come and listen to this class. I am also more willing to believe that whether it is the training he received in the medical department or the inspiration he gained during self-study, he may have his own set of methods.

When Dr. Li asked the students why they came to [this class](https://www.facebook.com/pages/%E5%92%8C%E6%9D%8E%E9%86%AB%E5%B8%AB%E 4%B8%80%E8%B5%B7%E5%81%9A%E7%AD%86%E8%A8%98/229274443909816?ref=hl), I think my reasons may be different from everyone else’s. I came here with a feeling of support and encouragement, and when someone is willing to take such a class seriously, I think it is more important to take practical actions to support it.

In addition to the support, I also came home with a full load today. I often tell my friends that if you read a book or an article and get inspired by a point of view, that would be great! Looking back on today’s course, I did record a lot of things in the study manual.

For example, at the beginning, Dr. Li shared Grandpa Mars’ speech at TEDxTaipei “Don’t just look at “nothing”, borrow something from your dilemma” and asked everyone to briefly listen to the lecture and immediately summarize the key points. From this practical exercise, I broadened my horizons and tried to grasp the whole picture. At this time, taking notes is no longer just for memorizing and piecing together the speaker’s stories, but for obtaining life experiences worth sharing and touching from the resonance.

In life, what “is” and what is “not” are sometimes relative or even abstract. But if you think about it from another angle, you can understand that the dilemma of “nothing” is not lack, but how to face it bravely? The principle of taking notes may be similar.

Dr. Li started with the story of gold mining and also told his views on taking notes while listening to lectures. The most important thing is the purpose and method. Don’t rush to copy notes at the beginning, but calmly think about the purpose, mentality, etc., and then decide the corresponding approach.

It only lasted 120 minutes. Originally, I was worried that Dr. Li would not be able to finish the key points within the time. It seems that I was worried too much! Whether it is theory, cases, stories or practical exercises, it presents the overall teaching context quite completely.

The two-hour course was not only compact, but his oral expression was more mature and stable than when I first met him last year. His analysis of lecture notes was also methodical, and he solved many myths about taking notes. What’s even better is that Dr. Li also uses his own experience in taking notes to share with everyone, so that everyone can feel more clearly.

The young Dr. Li made me realize the saying, “The younger generation is to be feared.” I would also like to express my special thanks for his wonderful sharing, which made me experience the fun of note-taking again.
