Reading experience of "The Era of Resumption of Business is Coming": From π-shaped people, slash youth to the gig economy

The era of business resumption is here
I still remember that on the afternoon of February 11, 2018, it finally stopped raining. I remembered that I had not walked for several days to exercise, so I walked casually along the small park in Minsheng Community. As a result, I passed by a bookstore and saw this book “[The era of resumption of business is here: Multiple careers create multiple incomes and live a life of wealth and freedom](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010778704?utm_source=v ista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201802)” was quite touching; after walking for a while, I stopped at a nearby convenience store and finished reading the newly purchased book in a short time!
Perhaps due to the so-called “Law of Attraction” or just the right timing, similar books have been published recently, starting from the previous “[Slash Youth: New Global Career Trends, Embrace a More Valuable Multi-Job Life](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010762201?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-b ooks&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201802)”, “[The gig economy is here: a head-breaking MBA innovation course, teaching you to bravely challenge a multi-faceted life with multiple incomes and multiple job identities](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010776915?utm_ source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201802)”, to the new book “[One-click profit: Exploring new business opportunities in the era of sharing economy, 300 unique skills to turn knowledge, skills, and items into gold]” which was also discovered that day (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/ass p.php/vista/products/0010777782?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201802)》, talks about how people should challenge multiple jobs or the so-called resumed life in this uncertain and changing era, and then create a personal career map.
Resumption is not just about “doing one more job”! For example:
- Because of lack of money, I went to work in a convenience store after work → (X) A general “side job” is just a salary.
- I am an ordinary office worker during the day, and a sociable bartender at night → ( O ) A “resumption of business” with a truly synergistic effect. Turn your interest into income and your connections into gold!
Return to business ≠ Side business
Resuming business is of course not just a side business. I searched curiously and found that as early as 2013, the well-known Japanese writer Naoyuki Honda had written in “[After get off work, your life has just begun!”] written by him and Ochi Masato. : Make money by resuming business! The book “The Multiplication Work Technique of Never Giving Up on Your Dreams” (https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010587714?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201802)” introduces the concept of making money through resumption of business.
It’s a coincidence that I watched the live broadcast of “Everyone should have product thinking” on the fan page of Innovation Elementary School , Zhou Shuolun teacher talked about π-type people from the perspective of product managers. He told us that we must have both business knowledge, industry knowledge and professional knowledge to gain a foothold in the highly competitive workplace.
And that morning, I saw on Facebook that my friend Mocoo Lee, who is engaged in the e-commerce industry, posted wonderful information pictures and texts to promote the concept of “Polygonal Life”.
In fact, whether it is π-shaped people, slash youths or freelancers, you must know that these are inevitable trends under social changes. Freelancing is not a new thing, and resumption of work has been around for many years. However, with the advancement of information technology, the market downturn, and the multiple relationships between low-wage earners, the thinking of multiple jobs and resumption of life has become more important, and it has also catalyzed the so-called “gig economy”.

For example, Jace Hall’s famous saying: “To get from A to C, you don’t have to go through B.” It reminded me to break away from rigid traditions and find a development path that suits me.
And Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) reminded me again: “People always think that focus is focusing on what must be focused on, but in fact it is not the case. Focus really means saying no to hundreds of other good ideas. Careful selection is the key.” Indeed, we not only need to focus, but also need to work smartly.
Non-linear connections
Whether you want to start a business or look for various development possibilities outside of your own industry, this book is well worth reading. The author not only talks about a lot of entrepreneurial ideas, but also interviews many successful entrepreneurs. The book also talks about many implementation details, such as how to design the sales page and so on. Well, I think if you read it carefully, you should gain some new insights.
For example, in the chapter about introducing connections, I learned a good approach. Regarding Human Network Management, I have always had my own set of values - I don’t like the practice of going around exchanging business cards and taking photos with celebrities, but I am willing to take the initiative to extend an olive branch to see if my friends need my help.
We must first put ourselves in the other person’s shoes and try to sublimate “what I want to do” into “what we want to do.” I don’t like that many people view network management with the mentality of comparing every penny. The interactions between people cannot be calculated using computers to calculate the pros and cons.
But after reading this book, I learned that I can actually take a more active role: instead of asking others “Do you need help?”, I can actively think about “How can I help?” This reminds me of a friend who often asks me questions about copywriting, and I am always happy to give some advice. But he was embarrassed and worried whether it would disturb me too much or affect my course income.
In fact, in the process of helping others, you often benefit yourself. For example, if I help read product copy or press releases, I can also learn a lot of new knowledge, or pay attention to some details that I have never paid attention to in the past. If you also plan to start your own multi-job life, you might as well learn the “non-linear network” method in the book.
