Perhaps because of my long-term involvement in the Internet industry and media circles (http://edu.userxper.com/vista-cheng/), I often receive requests from friends and elders to help “check out” the new works of certain entrepreneurial teams - hoping that I can give them some advice, or help with media exposure, marketing, or formulating operational strategies.

Of course, there are also people who self-recommend themselves. They will write emails or contact me through Facebook or Weibo. In addition to sharing the ups and downs of starting a business, they also directly hope that I can help introduce media resources. I have high respect for most of these entrepreneurial friends who have a positive attitude and take the initiative, and I am willing to provide necessary assistance within my ability.

However, I found that some entrepreneurial teams don’t seem to know the difference between dealing with others. They don’t know how to ask for support, and they don’t quite know what preparations they should make. In this way, the cost of communication has been greatly increased, and both parties’ efforts and time have been wasted. It is a pity to think about it.

Therefore, I want to use this article to talk to friends who are interested in starting a business, how to ask for support?

If you have developed a product or service that you think is good and already has a group of active users, then it is indeed time to try the outside water temperature.

If you want to seek media exposure, the first thing to do is to prepare relevant press releases, illustrations and other materials. You can even use a beautiful and touching story to package your product.

Can you describe your product in one sentence? Do you know how the development teams of YouTube or Pinterest explained their entrepreneurial ideas to the outside world? This lesson is left to you to go to Google. The key point is that the entrepreneurial team must be fully prepared before starting to seek media exposure.

Not only do you need to write the press release and have a test account ready (if needed), but you also need to make sure that the press channels are open. In addition, everything from product icons and company logo electronic files to links to the company’s official website, blogs and fan pages must also be prepared in advance.

Leyl Master Black, executive director of SparkPR, a company based in San Francisco, USA, pointed out (https://www.inc.com/guides/2010/09/how-to-put-together-a-press-kit.html), “Journalists are usually busy with deadlines, and are often burdened with interviews, writing, and other complicated tasks, so you need to help them a little more so that the reporter can quickly get into the situation and write a report about you.”

“In the future, everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” More than 40 years ago, artist Andy Warhol understood the power of the media, and his famous saying is still ringing today.

Thinking from another perspective, only by making complete preparations in advance can we seize the opportunity to become famous in an instant.

In addition, when there are friends and elders around us who can enthusiastically help recommend media or various resources, we can quickly provide the necessary reference information with a grateful heart. The advantage of doing this is that it can not only shorten communication time, but also help your products and services be seen by the world!

Remarks:

The entrepreneurial team needs to prepare a complete Press Kit, which usually includes:

  1. Experience and introduction of the team founder.
  2. Product press releases.
  3. Company Logo (prepare common file formats, including removing the back image).
  4. Product illustration (prepare common file formats, including removing the image file).
  5. Product video (can be filmed and uploaded to the YouTube platform).
  6. Links to official websites, fan pages and blogs.
  7. Test account.
