To take back the initiative in life, start by mastering the rhythm of speed and slowness

Life kidnapped by mobile phones

There was a time when we had to swipe our phones while taking a ride or eating. Even in a movie theater where we couldn’t see our fingers, we had to rush to reply to friends’ messages in the dark.

Therefore, “distraction” is no longer a negative word. Under this universal phenomenon, “multitasking” or “multitasking” are just right. But, ask yourself, is this really the way we want to live?

Needless to say, everyone knows that we live in a rapidly changing era of action. Whether studying or doing work, everything should be efficient and fast. It seems that people who are slow may be overwhelmed by the torrent of the times at any time. But is it really so? When we only advocate the pursuit of speed, are we also quickly leaving behind some precious things?

It would be nice if time could stop, even just for a second.

Master the rhythm of life

Starting from this year, I hope that I can take back the right to serve in life, not to be fettered or confused by external things, and to be able to better control the rhythm of life - in other words, of course I should be fast when I should be fast, but I might as well slow down when I should be slow, and think carefully before taking action.

For example, waiting at a red light is a time that tests everyone’s patience. Many people can’t wait for the traffic light to turn green and rush out immediately when the light changes. This is not only dangerous, but it doesn’t actually save much time. Now, even if the light turns green, I will choose to wait one more second, firstly to confirm that the people and cars on the other side have stopped, and secondly, I can walk with peace of mind. In fact, it’s not less than that second, isn’t it?

Furthermore, try not to swipe your phone when walking. You don’t have to be distracted by sudden Facebook or LINE messages, or even stop. This will not only ensure your own safety, but also protect your eyesight from damage. While walking, wouldn’t it be nice if you could pay more attention to the scenery around you and breathe some fresh air?

Promote the One Second Slow Philosophy

I want to promote the “slow down for a second” philosophy in my circle of friends and help everyone regain a sense of leisure in life. At the same time, I will also set an example. When I offer courses related to “improving reading skills” or organize various reading clubs in the future, I will no longer deliberately talk about speed reading - speed reading is not bad, but reading itself has more important points worth pursuing, such as: helping everyone find the joy of reading, how can we talk to the author?

After all, the meaning of reading is not about how quickly you can finish it? But can you find a chapter in the book that moves you, or get inspiration for life?

Instead of blindly pursuing speed, it is better to find a ritual that suits you, and have a good dialogue with the world in a fast and slow rhythm. Being slow for a second will not make you out of touch with society; thinking quietly, making decisions before taking action, this is the foundation of speed, isn’t it?

There is a feature of the iPhone that I really like. I can know how much time I spend looking at my phone every week? Reviewing the data every week can also remind yourself not to spend too much time on unnecessary things.

I would like to use this article to encourage everyone, and hope that we can all master the rhythm of speed and slowness and regain the initiative to serve in life.
