When you think of John, what comes to mind? Some people will immediately think of the late British singer John Lennon, others will think of the famous hand-drinking John’s black tea, and some may even think of it. Tell me, John is the disciple whom Jesus loved.
Wikipedia tells me that John means “Jehovah is merciful” in Hebrew and is a common Hebrew name. When I hear the name John, a picture seems to appear in my mind immediately. I feel that this is an honest and reliable person, just like the group of friends named John who have been around us since we were young.
To put it bluntly, when I was a child, my English teacher also gave me the name John. But at the time, I felt that too many people were called John, so I quickly chose another English name. Of course, everyone will call me Vista now, but these are things for another day…
Closer to home, the John we are going to introduce today (Quan Ziqiang) is currently the founder and CEO of Zandidian Digital Marketing. He is also a social marketing lecturer and corporate consultant. I have forgotten when I met Brother Quan, but looking at the group photo of us at the 2006 [Chinese Blog Award] (https://blog.udn.com/101match/1474395) award ceremony, it also shows that we have been friends for at least more than ten years.
In fact, “Dear John” is Brother Quan’s latest book, and it is also his birthday gift to himself.
Why did John want to write this book? And why should we adopt the self-publishing model this time?

He said: “In the past two years, due to the raging COVID-19, many lives have come to a silent end. After people leave, nothing is left except the endless pain for relatives and friends. As I flipped through this book, I seemed to have fallen into a time tunnel. I have known Brother Quan for almost 20 years. I have actually participated in many of the stories he mentioned in his books (such as the Chinese Blog Award mentioned earlier), and I have heard him mention some things before, or even seen him share them on his blog or Facebook, so I am quite familiar with them.
Compared with the biographies of some well-known figures, which contain a lot of irrelevant and flashy things, I feel that “[Dear John] (https://greatidea.tw/dearjohn/)” written in plain writing is full of meaning and worthy of everyone’s careful appreciation. What’s even more special is that Brother Quan not only invited his mentor to write the preface, but also asked the 14-year-old young master to write the preface. This is really interesting! Time flies so fast. I still remember that when the children of the Quan family were just born, how could they become teenagers all of a sudden?
Having said that, I really think it would be great to write your own story! This also reminds me of the “Write Your Own Story” series of online courses that I recently collaborated with UDN Orange Generation. Everyone is welcome to write the chapter of life together.
