In today’s episode, I will share with you how to design effective calls to action, I hope you will like it!
What is a call to action? Simply put, a call to action is a model that inspires the target audience to actually take action. We can use banners, pictures or copy to arouse the public’s attention, and then drive this group of people to take specific actions - such as hoping that consumers will buy goods, donate money, participate in activities, etc.
[Call to Action, CTA] is common in many product copywriting, including: buy now, sign up now, learn more or go to the nearest store… etc. As for graphical design, it includes banners, buttons or general pictures.
A good call to action can often make the target audience willing to take action. To create a powerful call to action, you first need to grab the attention of target audience. When writing copy, it is recommended that you write content that is easy to understand and provide clear benefits and instructions in the text, so that readers will take action…
Here, I want to share with you some tips for designing calls to action. First, you can ask yourself three questions:
- What do I want my target audience to do?
- How to ensure that the target audience knows what they should do?
- Why does the target audience do this? What benefits can they get?
If you can answer all three questions above, it means that the call to action you designed is feasible and specific. Remember that each call to action may have different purposes and needs, but be sure to provide value to your target audience and let them know that something they spend their time doing is meaningful…
In order to prompt visitors to take specific actions (calls, subscriptions, clicks, etc.), we usually need to go through a careful design. In other words, before laying out the call to action, we must have a clear and executable strategy.
This is because in today’s fragmented era, our eyeballs are easily attracted by colorful novelty things, and we are easily restless and impatient to listen to long speeches. Even if we write a great article, if there is no deliberate presentation and design, it is very likely that readers will leave after reading it in a hurry!
It should be easy for everyone to understand that concentration is our most precious asset. Therefore, in order to create a powerful call to action, we first need to grab the attention of the target audience.
For example, some people will place buttons (such as add to shopping cart) in conspicuous places and even label them with special colors; others will change the font and use bold or italics to highlight the key points. The purpose of these designs is nothing more than to arouse people’s attention.
So, how do you create a powerful call to action? It is recommended that everyone must grasp the following three principles:
- Simple and easy to understand: It means that people should be able to understand it at a glance and quickly understand the “instructions” we put in the product copy.
- Clear instructions: Let the target audience have a direction to follow, such as donating via credit card to help the helpless elderly, encouraging everyone to attend a charity garden party, etc.
- Concise and powerful: In addition to helping everyone save time, it can also prevent visitors from being distracted while browsing web pages or copywriting, which also helps improve effectiveness and conversion rates.
In addition, I also suggest that you make good use of these four elements to impress people, which are:
- Sense of value.
- Practicality.
- Uniqueness.
- Sense of urgency.
Regarding the sense of value, practicality and uniqueness, I think you can easily interpret it literally, so I won’t go into details here. What does urgency mean? You may wish to think about it, in our daily busy life, there are too many things that pass by us, but most people may never face them.
If you think about it carefully, this phenomenon is actually quite normal. Because if it is not an issue that is directly related to them, or if the matter has any specific or obvious benefits, it is likely to be automatically ignored by people, or everyone may think “Oh, let’s take a look when we have time.”
But it is conceivable that the result of looking at it when you have time is usually nothing. If we cannot create a sense of urgency in a timely manner, such as “flash sale”, “imminent deadline”, and “limited quantity is cruel”, it may not be easy to arouse the audience’s attention.
Therefore, using a sense of urgency in a timely manner (https://www.holibear.com/hblog/Marketing Strategy | Seven Ways to Create a Sense of Crisis (Fomo) to Promote Consumption/) can indeed improve the effectiveness of calls to action. Of course, I also want to remind you: You must not do this trick every time, otherwise everyone will lose flexibility over time!
In addition to mastering the concepts mentioned above, you may also wish to adopt the following two methods when writing or designing calls to action. These are some techniques I use frequently when designing calls to action, and they work quite well!
The first method: sort out the problems or bottlenecks that the target audience will actually encounter.
Trying to make the problems faced by your target audience concrete will naturally help everyone think and take action. Think about it, if you just lightly mention “Welcome to contact us” or “Welcome to fill in the request form” in your article, do you think readers will contact us immediately or fill out the form obediently?
But if we can add some scenes, based on the needs of the target audience, and even match popular topics such as festivals and current affairs, it will naturally attract attention!
The second method: Help the target audience outline the ideal life or career vision they yearn for.
As the saying goes, “If you have a dream in life, build your dream with a solid foundation.” Many people have longing for their future life or work. If we can help the target audience outline a bright future blueprint in advance, it will naturally be easier to attract this group of people to follow the guidance and take corresponding actions.
