Recently, both my partners in the “Vista Writing Companion Program” and some writers and lecturers I already know have all asked me about issues related to running a blog. So, let’s talk to you today about how to start a blog!
Before we talk about how to start a blog, we may all need to understand one question first, that is, why write a blog? Everyone has different motivations and reasons for writing blogs. Therefore, I think that if you can use blogging to strengthen your writing, it will be helpful for building personal brand. Because writing is not only about communication, delivery and persuasion, but also about recording your own changes and growth.

The first step in running a blog is actually not to choose a blog platform or purchase a website, but to confirm what is your writing goal? Who are the target readers? For example, in the first phase of our “Vista Writing Companionship Program”, a partner lives in Changhua, and she hopes to introduce Changhua’s beautiful mountains, waters and rich food through writing a blog. Another partner is an excellent salesperson working in the real estate agency industry. He hopes to build his own personal brand through blogging and also introduce good properties to residents in the central region.
After you have set your goals and potential readership, the second step is to think about which blogging platform you prefer? Or consider setting up your own website? Based on my personal experience, in the past I preferred to use the open source WordPress system to build websites, and I even co-wrote related WordPress books with friends before… But I must also remind everyone that although WordPress is currently the most used content management system (CMS) in the world, there are many enthusiastic companies and engineers writing plug-ins for this system. However, if you do not have a relevant background in programming, it is best to find technical support first.
In recent years, because I have focused on content production, I changed my mind and used the Blogger platform owned by Google. Of course, I also have several websites built using WordPress; in addition, it is also good to use Medium or Pixnet. I think when considering choosing a platform system, I suggest that you first think according to your own abilities and needs. The third step is that for those who want to run a personal brand, it is very important to have your own domain. Whether you want to use WordPress to set up a website or run your own blog on the Blogger platform, you can bind the URL! Of course, choosing a domain name that is unique and impressive is another skill! Friends who are interested can discuss it with me.
The fourth step, no matter which platform or system you end up using, you must put some thought into planning the scenario, movement lines, units and layout design. In the past, I also liked some cool interfaces or animation effects, but now I feel that content and user experience are more important. I also suggest enlarging the font size of the blog to make it easier to read.
After the blog is set up, content production begins. I encourage all friends who want to start a blog to maintain a fixed frequency of posting, such as at least one article per week (of course it would be better if it can be updated daily), so that readers can develop the habit of watching.
The fifth step, regarding Blog Management, I must remind everyone to have some patience. Because writing a blog requires time to accumulate before you can harvest sweet fruits; therefore, I suggest that you not only write a blog, but also raise your own structure and vision to the level of content operation. In other words, at the beginning of business, it is best to formulate a rigorous strategy and use the processes of creation, planning, editing and organization to lay out and display unique content, and thereby polish your personal brand.

Although I encourage many students and friends to publish articles, everything must be done carefully Methods and Strategy, you don’t just write stupidly, but you must think from the perspective of your target audience: What issues will they care about?
