This afternoon, I came to the Chengyuan International Business Center opposite Dunnan Eslite Bookstore to participate in the “[Illustrated Business Model Training Workshop] (https://www.accupass.com/event/1908201842098871901650)” hosted by my friend [Chen Zhengting] (https://www.facebook.com/benba.chen).
Why sign up for this training workshop?
When it comes to business models, I am actually not unfamiliar with them, and I can even say that I am familiar with them to a certain extent - not just because I am deeply interested in studying business models. When I worked in the media in the past, business models were one of my interview lines; I even produced a series of reports with “Internet Business Models” (https://www.bnext.com.tw/magazine/126304) as the cover story for “Digital Times” magazine.

Although I have dabbled in business models, I have also read many books related to business models in the past few years, including “[This is how popular products are created!”] mentioned by teacher [Chen Zhengting] (https://www.facebook.com/benba.chen) today! : Learn from UNIQLO, APPLE, DAISO…! Illustrate their business model and find your key to profit](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010513858?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201909)” and “Illustration Business Business Model 2.0: Analysis of 100 Successful Enterprise Architectures with Reverse Thinking》. However, when I heard that Teacher Chen was going to open “Illustrated Business Model Training Workshop”, I felt that this opportunity was quite rare, so I quickly signed up!
In this four-hour training workshop, the main themes of the course include: mastering and absorbing, transforming and innovating, and co-creating and summarizing. Teacher Chen first explained to everyone, what is a business model? Then we dismantle the core thinking of the business model and remind everyone that knowing why we are doing it is important, but knowing who we are doing it for is even more critical.
Hearing this paragraph resonated with me very much. I couldn’t help but think of how when I was teaching, I would constantly remind everyone to set the [target audience] first (https://www.contenthacker.today/search?q=%E7%9B%AE%E6%A8%99%E5%8F%97%E7%9C%BE). Having said that, only by clearly outlining the audience can subsequent marketing strategies be effective.
Illustrating the core method of business model
Teacher Chen also told everyone that although the Business Model Canvas (or business model blueprint) is very famous and is used by many companies and academic institutions, sometimes it still cannot fully explain the operation of business logic. If it can be combined with the diagrammatic business model method originally created by [Itabashi Satoru] (http://3w1h.jp/) and carried forward by [Kondo Tetsuro] (https://note.mu/tck), not only can one understand business thinking through deliberate practice, but one can also use visual presentation to connect ideas. What’s even better is that drawing is used to facilitate communication and help build consensus.

To be honest, I think it is not too difficult to learn hand-drawn business models. Friends who are interested can buy “[Illustrated Business Model 2.0: Analyzing 100 Successful Enterprise Structures with Reverse Thinking](https://www.books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010824412 ?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-201909)》Teach yourself (by the way, “[This is how popular products are created!](https://www.books. com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010513858?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-2019 09)》This book is out of print. Interested friends can refer to this article). I think what is more needed is to constantly observe the business logic of the company and deliberate practice on your own. Of course, you also need to learn entrepreneurship and business thinking from the right master.
Teacher Chen explained eight common business models in detail (of course, there are definitely more than eight business models. Think about it, I have sorted out a hundred business models for readers and friends before), and explained with actual cases.

Practical exercises and mutual comments
Since this is a training workshop, it is natural for everyone to have hands-on practice. Therefore, Teacher Chen also arranged many drills in the course. At the beginning, students were asked to practice drawing the business model diagram of a human bank. After everyone became familiar with the drawing skills, the real challenge came - Teacher Chen hopes that every student can draw the business model diagram of his or her own company or individual. This is because he often has blind spots when looking at units or industries he is familiar with, so it is more difficult!
Since I have been away from work for a long time, I had to draw a business model diagram of my “Company of One”! Because I am a lecturer, business consultant, and columnist, I have to take these items into consideration when drawing. What is special is that I also host a “Vista Writing Companion Program”. The business model of this part is not the traditional buying and selling model, but more inclined to the continuous model introduced by Teacher Chen.

Looking at the highlights of the “Illustrated Business Model Training Workshop”, in addition to the rich cases and practical exercises, I think there is another great thing, that is, Teacher Chen invites everyone to comment on each other and help suggest feasible business models.
Taking my own business model diagram as an example, I am really grateful to two friends, [Zhou Yuru] (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1804258191) and [Wei Meifen] (https://www.facebook.com/mei.wei3), the deputy director of the community management department, for their great suggestions. Well, in addition to the buying and selling model and the continuation model, I will also think carefully about the feasibility of the secondary utilization and totaling models. Thank you again!

In addition to the interaction between students, Teacher Chen also brought many wonderful cases to this “Illustrated Business Model Training Workshop”, some of which were mentioned in the book, and some of which were his own coaching cases. It was really enjoyable to listen to the lectures on the spot. I won’t spoil too much. If you are also interested, you should seize the opportunity next time the class starts!
By the way, today some students also asked me about the “[100 Internet Business Models] (https://www.bnext.com.tw/magazine/126304)” that I produced in the 191st issue of “Digital Times” magazine (some enthusiastic netizens provided the version of “Mind Map” (https://digimindflow.blogspot.com/2014/06/100.html) for reference). Well, I am also here to share with you:
