My days with Clubhouse
In fact, I don’t often join in the early stages of a new craze, starting with Facebook, LINE, or even Instagram now. However, since the beginning of February when everyone was discussing ClubHouse, I had an inexplicable urge to follow the trend.
I took a look at my iPhone battery usage in the past 10 days:

The freshness of this new App has allowed ClubHouse (hereinafter referred to as CH) to quickly take the first place in its usage rate. However, due to the characteristics of audio only, CH is often used while doing other things at the same time, so it is not too surprising that the usage rate exceeds other services!
Recently, I have begun to see people expressing their opinions on CH. I also took advantage of the free time during the Spring Festival to talk about what I think of CH?
Speaker Is there any information?
I think being willing to talk in front of people basically requires a certain amount of “skill”. This may be professionalism, experience, narration, and story-telling abilities. Professionalism and experience are real skills. Retelling and telling stories are an art of expression even if they are not accumulated connotations. The quality of a Speaker does not depend on the person who speaks, but on the person who listens. People whose “skills” are higher than Speaker’s will definitely think that this is all nonsense, right? However, even if it is the same content, it is likely to be new knowledge for those who do not know it, and they may even gain something from it.
When I am a listener, I am used to reading the speaker’s self-introduction (Bio) to understand his or her background. This can help me adjust my expectations for the content in advance; however, the chance of meeting the founders (Founders) of various companies on CH is really high. When you feel that the content is not helpful to you, don’t waste time by changing to the next room. It will definitely be the best solution.
Because I have been cueed to speak on stage several times, this kind of speaking mode that only relies on voice without the aid of presentation screens, and cannot see the expressions of the audience below, should be fine if it is just chatting on general topics, but it is really not as easy as imagined to talk about some professional and valuable content.
After the audience receives full information, can it become their own?
First answer, how is it possible?
It didn’t start with CH. When mobile networks became everyone’s standard, an explosive amount of information was piled in front of everyone every day. Therefore, I believe that everyone in the Internet generation should learn how to filter information. CH just classifies this information by room to allow users to choose conveniently. The key is to choose the audience for the information. Of course, we still have to thank those who are willing to spend time opening the room to be moderators or speakers.
For me, in the process of receiving information, as long as I hear a sentence that allows me to continue thinking, spending time listening can produce a certain value. Even if it is a field that we are familiar with, just speakers from different angles, stages or levels can always point out the links that we no longer think about. Behind not thinking about it is often just ignoring it because of disdain.
I have a technical background. From 2015 Entrepreneurship to now, my strength is that I can logically summarize market feedback and use it as a basis for product updates, so I am accustomed to listening.
Everyone should know that our company is currently engaged in understanding the data processing and application of products. This is actually what we are doing, but just a statement from a different perspective allows me to extend and explain the value of the product more completely. This is the importance of listening.
Faced with the full amount of information brought by CH, those numbers, methods, tools and means, just listening with your ears will not make you as good as the Speaker. After all, the resources and scenes are completely inconsistent! If you are a product manager (PM) in the Asian or even Taiwanese market, the problems you face may be somewhat different from those you face. Even so, I still feel that I gained a lot from listening to the whole show!
One of them heard the sentence “Don’t need to be a decision maker, listen to everybody and be the one to manage the discussion and push the project move on.” This is a problem that easily arises in the process of making products. Just one sentence that resonates with me is enough for me to make a change with purpose.
So, after listening to so many people sharing on Clubhouse, how can I make it my own? I suggest you filter the topics first, find the intersection with the problems you are facing during the listening process, and then further think about how Speaker’s thinking model can be applied to your own problems. Only in this way can the information be internalized and put into practical use.
I really think Clubhouse is a good platform. The key to its continuation is to continue to produce good content in each room, so that users can absorb information intelligently and not let the time spent in the room become a waste.
