Some friends may know that I recently collaborated with YOTTA website to hold a course “Personal Brand Management Practice”. Although the theme and direction of the course are different, it actually continues my research and observation of the education market in the past few years.

I once thought that in addition to continuing to provide writing teaching and related consulting services, is it possible to design a set of courses that can meet everyone’s needs? This is a common issue for friends of all ages in the contemporary era, because if you don’t first define your own success in the future and find your own direction first, then you may be defined by others…

Since I left the media industry and started working as a consultant and educator, I have often worked with students, and I have discovered to my surprise: Although many of my friends have a strong motivation to learn and are willing to invest in themselves—but even if they have read many business management books or taken many classes, they still cannot write an eye-catching article or execute a wonderful marketing plan on their own.

Well, what exactly is the problem?

The teaching experience accumulated in the past few years has allowed me to understand the blind spots of many learners: not only do we want to learn more knowledge, but we also hope to use this knowledge to do more things. However, due to the lack of action plans and deliberate practice, the results are often ineffective. Therefore, in order to help everyone achieve their learning goals and aspirations, in recent years I have begun to strengthen and iterate my course design, and I have also tried to build a learning process that is enjoyable and capable of growth. At the same time, through practical methods, students can learn while doing it, instead of passively sitting in class and listening to lectures.

Before each class starts, I will ask students to propose their own learning plans, understand motivations and needs by communicating learning goals, and design a companion learning journey. During the three-month companionship, students can practice by submitting assignments (such as product copywriting, fan posts, publishing plans, or sales page design, etc.), and I also provide specific and practical comments and feedback.

Recently, Wen Jing, a graduated student, suggested that everyone form a small study group to continue practicing writing. This was very popular with me, so I quickly helped everyone set up four themed groups including self-media brand marketing, knowledge writing, product copywriting, and life style. I hope to carry forward the spirit of companion learning so that seniors in the “Vista Writing Companion Program” can run fast and practice together through the power of their peers.

I feel that this companion learning method that combines teaching and practice is the most effective way to help everyone solve their doubts and bravely embark on the journey. Therefore, after the first anniversary of the “Vista Writing Companion Program”, I originally planned to launch a separate “Personal Brand Companion Program”, hoping to help friends who are interested in building a personal brand through this method.

At this time, I met an invitation from a friend on the YOTTA website, and considering the impact of the new coronavirus epidemic, I decided to plan an online course on personal branding, hoping to help more friends. In addition to the rich course content and assignments in this course, I also invited two academic experts, Zhong Xiaoyun and Luo Runsheng, to serve as guest teachers, hoping to bring a more fulfilling and exciting feast of knowledge to the students.

She believes that the prerequisite for effective learning is that learners must realize that new things are useful and easy to use. Therefore, I often encourage students in writing classes: Don’t think too much, just write!

To achieve this goal, instructional design should provide opportunities for learners to observe or try out new processes or methods themselves. I also think this method is indeed effective, so I will combine the experience accumulated in “Vista Writing Companion Program” and invest in the design of this “Personal Brand Management Practice” course.

Teachers should try their best to teach by demonstration instead of just telling. To be honest, there are quite a few books, articles and courses on personal branding, and at first glance, they are not inferior to my course. But having said that, I also know that just imparting knowledge is not enough. It must be able to truly help everyone build their own personal brand. This online course is valuable!
