Shih Hsin University Omni Media Forum: Talents awaiting in the Omni Media Era
On November 28, the [Department of Communication Management of Shih Hsin University] (http://cm.shu.edu.tw/) held the [Omnimedia Forum] (http://cm.shu.edu.tw/?node=NEWSA&dbid=GUL9), inviting experts from industry, government, and academia to discuss the innovative development of cultural agents under cross-border, convergence, and omnimedia. Vista was honored to be invited to attend the conference and shared the topic of “Talents Waiting for in the Omni-Media Era”.
When I revisit Cuigu, I still remember the time when I studied communication-related majors many years ago. At that time, there was no distinction between new media, social media or self-media. The teacher mainly talked about mass media such as television, newspapers and radio in class. The so-called “media is the message” allows us to understand that messages will be affected by the media. We still remember the SMCRE model deeply.
However, with the rapid changes of the times, we have now entered the “omni-media era”, and the communication and management talents needed by this society are also more diverse. We are no longer complacent about knowing communication, management and editing. We must be “proficient in everything”!
Take the most popular e-commerce industry as an example. Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba Group, has not only mentioned new retail in recent years, but also recently shouted the slogan “5 New + 2H”. This also means that many industries are actually in a state of rapid iteration, so students currently studying communication-related departments must grasp this trend.
Jack Ma believes that now is the real beginning of the disruptive reshuffling of the industry. The next technological revolution will occur in various fields, and the answers cannot be found in books.

In the era of omnimedia, what kind of talents are needed? Let me briefly summarize it and suggest that students who are interested in entering related fields should develop the following abilities:
- Content production capabilities.
- Technology application capabilities.
- Growth mindset ability.
- Insightful thinking ability.
- Data-driven capabilities.
For students majoring in communication, the ability to produce texts, videos and other content is of course not a problem, but they also need to have the ability to apply technology that keeps pace with the times and know how to “think from others’ perspective”; more importantly, they need to have data concepts and a growth mindset, so that they can cope with the rapid changes in the mobile era.
