Yesterday morning, I met a coaching friend at Starbucks. While listening to her talk about New Year’s resolutions, she also shared my experience of participating in the “Vista Writing Companion Program” these days.
I knew that this coach had a plan to publish a book, but I didn’t know the specific theme and direction before, so I couldn’t provide much help. But this time I was finally able to share it with her. She talked about the blog she had been writing for a while and hoped to have the opportunity to publish it together and help more friends.
Many people dream of publishing a book. In fact, there is not much difference between publishing a book and selling products. First, you need to set a precise target audience, and then consider their interests and needs from their perspective. Those who have taken my copywriting class may have heard my story about a young woman and her mother buying a washing machine, right? Although women are also buying washing machines, the things that young women who have just entered society care about are often far from what their mothers consider…
Three things you must do before publishing a book
If you are interested in publishing a book, you must first consider factors such as writing style, publication time and market size. Of course, you must also see whether the topic you choose is attractive? Everyone knows that the publishing market is currently sluggish, so publishers will inevitably be more cautious or conservative when evaluating publishing proposals.
Therefore, I suggest that friends who want to publish a book, in addition to thinking clearly about the purpose and benefits of publishing a book, please do the following three things first:
-
Understand the needs of potential readers and conduct market research.
-
Write some test content so that the publisher can evaluate it.
-
Consider your background, education, and experience. Is it marketable?
In addition to the above three points, if you also have a certain degree of popularity or a basic number of fans, it will complement each other. Of course, you can also consider self-publishing, but that is a different field and requires other considerations.
If you are interested in publishing a book, please feel free to chat with me! Perhaps, I can provide you with some suggestions as someone who has experienced this.
