I often have the opportunity to speak or teach everywhere. Whether it comes to content marketing or copywriting, I often encourage students or guests to practice writing skills and express their own opinions by writing blogs.

Many people will have suspicious expressions on their faces when they hear me say this. Although they don’t say anything, I know that most people will think that blogs have long been outdated!

Some people even asked me directly: “Teacher, should I run a fan page or IG?”

In fact, operating fan page and instagram are certainly good choices, but I would also recommend that you use your own blog as your homepage for content production.

Why write a blog? As I mentioned before, this is a good way to improve your writing skills and practice expressing your own opinions. More importantly, blogging is like a window that can help you open the way to the world. Don’t think that if you just write silently on your blog, no one will see it; with the help of search engines, any traces you leave may be searched by others.

In other words, if the content you write can help others, you are doing a good thing! At the same time, it can help you build your personal brand and establish a professional image. Why not?

By writing blog articles, you can share your expertise, interests and enthusiasm with the outside world, and this blog can also become an excellent platform to show your life style, and it will also have the opportunity to help you connect with more connections and make you visible to the world!

When people ask me for advice on blogging, I always respond with yet another form of the same advice: pick a schedule you can live with, and stick to it. Until you do that, none of the other advice I could give you will matter.

Usually after I share these benefits, people slowly show their eagerness to give it a try. But there are many questions coming:

“Teacher, what platform should I use? Or should I set up my own website?”

“Teacher, what topic should I write about? Can I write one article a week? How many words should I write?”

In fact, choosing a blog platform is of course also a matter of knowledge. Whether you want to use Pixnet, Blogger, Medium or Vocus, it is good, or you want to take a challenge and use WordPress to set up a blog. The point is, what are your thoughts on this blog? Are there any specific needs? In addition, who is your intended readership?

I used to use WordPress to set up blogs, but later I wanted to focus on content production, so I chose to use the Blogger platform owned by Google. In addition, some articles will be reposted to Medium or Vocus.

As for writing topics, of course you can pick a topic that you like or are good at and start writing. Whether it’s related to work or career, or you want to write about family, education or your own interests, it’s all good.

Writing a blog is actually a good way to cultivate your mind and develop discipline. For me, writing articles is not only responsible for myself, but also for my readers. So, regarding the frequency and cycle of writing, maybe you can’t update it every day like me (write one article every day), so you can at least produce one or two articles every week, and try to avoid the phenomenon of “three days of fishing, two days of surfing the Internet”, so that readers or fans will not be at a loss what to do!
