Recently, I started grading assignments for the online course “[Content Power: The Super Power of Building Brands] (https://hahow.in/cr/content-power)”. I would like to ask everyone to talk about the common problems or bottlenecks encountered in content production. In addition to the old problem of “No inspiration”, many students also reported to me: they are not sure who the target audience of their products is? Or, don’t know how to set an effective target audience?

If we take the sale of goods or services as an example, we can set the scope of the target audience step by step in the following way:

  • Which groups will be interested in our products and services?

  • What motivates these people to buy? In what scenarios or situations will these goods and services be needed?

  • What specific benefits or benefits can this product or service bring to these ethnic groups?

Think about the target group from examples

Suppose your company is now going to launch a storage service that has become quite popular in recent years. You might as well think about who will particularly need this service? Are you an extremely busy office worker? Or a mother who is busy taking care of her children? Or what about the silver-haired people who have limited mobility?

And will their needs, thinking and behavior patterns be affected by age, gender or consumption intention, resulting in different changes?

Taking the slide above as an example, when setting target audiences, in addition to paying attention to age, gender and occupation, we might as well pay more attention to the interests, values, personalities and various preferences of these groups. The setting and insights of the target audience are not based on feelings, but require in-depth observation and data collection and analysis to truly figure out the clues.

The deeper we understand potential customers, the more naturally we can understand their troubles, needs, and real thoughts about products and services. If we can combine it with data interpretation and analysis, we will naturally have a deeper insight into human nature, and then write good content that touches people’s hearts.

Don’t be too greedy when setting your target audience

When setting the target audience, you should not be too greedy. Trying to catch all the consumer groups between the ages of six and sixty is unrealistic and unrealistic. I would like to remind everyone not to make this mistake!

After setting the target audience, you should think carefully about what unique selling propositions your products and services have? What problems can it help consumers solve? If you can grasp the characteristics and needs of your target audience, it will naturally be easy to “cater to their liking” and write good articles that people will feel and be willing to pay for!
