I have said before that the greatest significance of publishing an e-newsletter is not only self-talk and healing, but also the joy of being able to connect and interact with more friends through this medium. Therefore, whenever I receive letters from readers, it always makes me excited!

A few days ago, a friend asked: “Teacher is so busy, how do you arrange your schedule and activities?”

Wow, when it comes to time management, it is really a pain in the hearts of many office workers! Several friends have also asked me privately if I plan to offer time management courses, hoping that I can sort out some effective methods to share with you.

So, today let me briefly talk to you about how to manage time!

When it comes to time management, I believe you must be familiar with it. You may even be like me and have tried thousands of time management methods, such as: GTD (get it done) method, [Lyubishev time management method](https://wiki.mbalib.com/zh- tw/%E6%9F%B3%E6%AF%94%E6%AD%87%E5%A4%AB%E6%97%B6%E9%97%B4%E7%AE%A1%E7%90%86%E6%B3 %95), timeline method, [time four-quadrant method](https://wiki.mbalib.com/zh-tw/%E6%97%B6%E9%97%B4%E2%80%9C%E5%9 B%9B%E8%B1%A1%E9%99%90%E2%80%9D%E6%B3%95), [Pomodoro Technique](https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/ %E7%95%AA%E8%8C%84%E5%B7%A5%E4%BD%9C%E6%B3%95), Gantt chart method, vertical analysis method, [eat that frog first method](https://www. books.com.tw/exep/assp.php/vista/products/0010776007?utm_source=vista&utm_medium=ap-books&utm_content=recommend&utm_campaign=ap-202107), get up at four o’clock method, focus meditation method and visual simulation timer method…etc.

These methods are all great, and each has its own scientific basis, but the question is, why do most of my friends still fail after following them? Well, I wonder if you have ever heard of this? Someone once said: “Time cannot be managed, but we ourselves can (be managed).”

I also agree with this view. If we don’t find the crux of the problem first (for example, why does procrastination occur?), naturally we will not be able to prescribe the right medicine, and it will be difficult to develop the habit of using time effectively! As a result, no matter how many tools or methods are used, it will be difficult to continue.

The late success master Stephen R. Covey mentioned in the book “A Date with Time” that people face the challenge of how to make good use of time every day. He believes that a major lesson in life is to “make the most important things your top priority.”

He pointed out that there are two important elements that affect the use of time, namely urgency and importance, but people often confuse these two things. Therefore, the first lesson in time management is to practice [distinguishing urgency and importance] (https://www.managertoday.com.tw/articles/view/52761).

Many people are deceived of their time by “urgent but unimportant” trivial matters, but I would like to remind everyone here: Be extremely cautious about those things that seem “important and urgent”! If you usually have the habit of making to-do lists, maybe you are like me before, and you can’t wait to “annihilate” the top tasks, right? Do you feel an inexplicable sense of pleasure when you see a full to-do list ticked?

Well, seeing this, I believe many friends may smile knowingly, right? In this case, it is very likely that you will fall into the path of “urgency”.

This is because we have been taught since childhood that urgent matters should be dealt with first, but we do not know that only truly important matters are worthy of our full attention! Think about it again, do people really act according to their own ideas every time? Don’t let your subconscious fool you!

I believe you will also agree that time is a very precious capital given to us by God. The time management methods mentioned above all have their own characteristics and advantages. You can naturally choose one or two methods to try! But more importantly, we must have the right mentality to use our time effectively.

If you have any questions or ideas about time management, please feel free to write to me to discuss!
